Is it just me, or is that caboose set up for off-roading ??? Not a rivet counter at all, not familiar with the prototype, just looks a little "different" to me. Nice car, though !!! I LOVE bay window cabeese !!!
You mean like... riding a bit higher than the ones around it... right? I got GN#185... which seemed a little tall... but just thought it was my imagination... again compared to other cabeese. It could be perfect... since I have no specs to compare. Others may be able to confirm... still... I like the model none the less. Sent from my SM-J737T using Tapatalk
How do the corner steps look? If they are the same height above the rail, or the porch is about the same, maybe the roof is just taller. If the coupler and the lower parts of the car are at the right height, that must just be how the car is, since lowering it would put everything else off. I was looking for photos of bay window vs cupola cabooses, but didn’t find much on a height comparison.
Here is a picture taken at layout height. The bay window sits a little higher on the trucks and the steps are slightly higher than on the other caboose.
From the bottom of the side sill to the top of the rail is about the same on each car. The difference is that the side sill on the bay window caboose extends below the car side while on the cupola caboose it is part of the car side. The car sides are equal in height if you discount the inset one on the bay window.
Yeah boy, those glaring errors would keep me from putting it on my layout! I wouldn't be able to sleep. Doug
jlundy, the caboose is just fine. Realized I'm used to seeing "that box" hanging underneath. SORRY !!! Put lotsa' miles on that thing !!!
Some of what I got for me... My wife bought a bunch of DPM and a couple model power building for her modules, and a literally brand new (black gear) PCC trolley so she can have a trolley line on her park module. Runs nice at 3v DCC and 5v is plenty fast, so I will probably do a 5v power supply and PWM throttle for that loop. We want it to be child friendly to operate. I did pull the police car out and review it, it has its positive and negatives. Literally and figuratively.
Those SP covered hoppers are nice models. Years ago I bought one at a shop in Phoenix as a trip souvenir and am happy to have it.
I just bought some undec MT cars (where did all the undecs go...?) to fill out an order for a WoT SP daylight baggage car that I missed getting the first time around...only to find out that I missed it the second time as well.
I guess both of us missed it this time around... feeding frenzy for those WoT Daylight Harriman cars. Sent from my SM-J737T using Tapatalk
Received 14 Micro Trains Rio Grande Cookie Box boxcars today! Have a few duplicate numbers listed in Swap Meet section. iPad photo with poor lighting!
Always have liked those 'Cookie Box' box cars. They came in both a white version and a silver version. I have several of each as well. I would like to create a distribution/manufacturing warehouse for Keebler... or which ever entity would have hosted these cars. Sent from my SM-J737T using Tapatalk
As I recall, from a Prospector magazine article, the cars were built by the Rio Grande, for Keebler in Denver. The primary purpose, was to minimize cargo breakage during transport. Gotta find that magazine again, so I can reread the article. Need car numbers for both white and silver versions.
