Tuesday is here. Monday at lunch, picked up the Kato 24-842 DC converter and a new set of bumper tracks to replace two I bought that I didn't like the look of. however, didn't get to install them. Missed a step on my way out of the office yesterday afternoon and spent the evening at urgent care. Severe knee sprain so everything is on hold for a few days as I have to keep it elevated and on ice. Had to cancel my trip as well. Guess I will have some time to start thinking more about the backdrop and scenery.
So, with work at a stand still on the layout, I've had some time to start thinking about what I would like to do scenery wise. Thinking a small creek with a bridge in one corner and maybe a hill with a tunnel on the other corner. One of my favorite scenes on the old layout was the main street. Looks like it would fit nicely on one side and then incorporate some of the other business and light industry around it. At the other end, either an underpass or overpass. Not sure which would be best. With the thick foam, I have the option of either way. Itching to get back to it. Knee was a little worse than I thought. Hoping for an update from the doctor later this week on what needs to be done. At least I am able to get to the office so not missing much work with this.
Nothing new to update on layout progress. Still thinking trough scenery ideas. Had knee surgery yesterday so still going to be a few weeks before I can get back down to the layout.
Rest easy my friend. Take care of yourself first and brainstorm those ideas while you follow doctor's orders!
Git well soon!!! I'm still recovering from back surgery so I know what you are going through. My suggestion is to find a couple of small projects to do, like make trees or building kit. I have a TV tray that I use in the living room for a workbench. Joe
Thanks for the kind support guys. Definitely trying to figure out how I can work on some things once I can find a chair I can get in and out of. Right now the knee is locked straight so getting up and down from a regular chair is a challenge. Here is what they did. Drilled 3 holes in the knee cap and sewed the tendon back on. Can't bend it for at least 2 more weeks so I don't tear the ties.
One of the new pieces of rolling stock for the JPT sub showed up today. I'm impressed with the level of detail.
Thank you Kurt! Get my first post surgery evaluation tomorrow (Friday 6/7) plus get the stiches and staples out. Hopefully it will be a positive update. Probably still a few weeks from being able to go up and down a normal flight of stairs. That has been the hardest part since I can't get to the layout while I'm healing. Have at least occupied some train time by planning scenery and ordering some items I will need for the layout once I can get back to it. Of course the carbon black hopper and a couple of other cars were nice to haves that just happen to get added to an order.
Picked up some used Unitrack #6 switches (or turnouts ) last week. The plugs had been cut off the wires but they are all supposed to work. Spent some time this afternoon wiring new plugs onto them. Hopefully I'll be able to get some additional switch controllers this week and test them next weekend if I can begin to make it to the basement again. One other thing I have to do is see if I can clean some weathering off two of them. Anyone have any suggestions on what to maybe use to avoid damaging them?
Switch controllers due to arrive in todays mail. Looking forward to testing the new used switches and deciding where to fit them into the track plan. Got a good update from the doctor yesterday. Off the crutches but still have to use a cane for now. She gave me a little more flexion in my leg brace which means I may be able to start driving again in another week or so. Best news is that as long as I don't overdo it, I can try negotiating stairs so going to be able to make it down to the layout later today!!!!!!!! Now contemplating what project to start on when I get down there. Going o be a good weekend!
