Yep, still lots of cars unloaded at the south end. The north end of the yard has a lot of potash cars unloaded nowadays there.
We had more snow on Sat, but that melted on contact! Purty tho! The only fallen flag auto rack I am waiting to see is a BN in green, still haven't seen one in many years through here.
This is the first of three vids I got on Sun morning. I thought I was just going to get a coal train. But it was super long doubled coal train! They are attaching two coal loads in an attempt to cut labor. This made for a 14000 foot train!! 7 units! The only major troubles are two, according to an engineer I spoke with. 1- the remote radio the conductor carries won't reach to the end of the train. 2- Not very many sidings to go into.
You'd have to distribute that power , especially with helpers. Too much push at the tail and, well, you know...
Got this wind blade train the other day, and it sure split town quickly! There are some neat cars in the set.
That blade train is really neat. Those lats all look like they have seen better days but good to see them out turning revenue miles. I also like the sharks teeth along the blades. Guess that makes it easier to catch birds.
I was being funny about the birds but actually, I believe you are correct that it helps with turbulence.
Here's a snip-it from an article I found. They apparently do reduce turbulence which reduces noise. "When the turbine is operating, the airflow follows the surface perpendicularly to the blade axis. Near the trailing edge, the boundary layer breaks away from the blade and the flow becomes turbulent. Vortices then appear and create noise. Thanks to serrations, the transition to the blade from the free air-flow is softened, leading to less vortices and lower noise."

Just like back in the 80's, when all you saw were 1,000's of Cascade Green SD40-2's roaming the land, I didn't like these when they first came out in that Grinstein Paint, now to find a pair of Executive Macs together still is cool!! Used to see them here alot on the coal trains in Auburn Yard, but not anymore.
Yesterday I was taking some views from that property I am babysitting, that may become my home, and this train here pulled in,
So, then I just had to try to get that train in full length as she left town, and found success! It was unusual to see UP power here leading and such a long train. At least this one didn't have as many flat wheels as some of the coal trains have had!

Naw, just another UP toaster. I am really jazzed about maybe getting this property! Seeing these things daily would be way too fun!
