Buddy, good for you, covering live steam ops. That is a Chinese QJ, isn't it? The IAIS has really "Americanized" her appearance. Am I the only other steam fan on this board?

Yes it is. It was built in 1985.
You and I seem to be the only Steam lovers on this forum.

I am. I saw C&NW 1385 running years ago and I was right next to her when she started up and I was IMPRESSED. And that's just a small steamer.

Seeing/hearing pictures/movies of an actual steamer operating these days is a real treat.

Um...I purposely hunt out steam, and I have rode behind many steamers. I chased 844, 3751 and 3985, 4449...I have rode behind many Rio Grande narrow gauge, WSL shays, a CB&Q 2-8-2, C&W 2-8-2 and LSI 2-8-0's

:eek::eek: Not at all. A lot of railroaders from that era, in both sides of my families. There was still a good amount of steam operating, when I was a small boy. Especially NP stuff and the Rayonier loggers. Once in your blood, it never goes away.

Good to hear from more steam buffs. There were many when this site first started. Modelers have become much more prevalent, and I may be one of the few "old" people here who does not model. It kind of makes it difficult to comment on the modeling threads when one doesn't know anything about it. Not complaining, I'll just stick to steam.

I am hoping to go catch 4014 when it steams across Western Iowa. Trying to take vacation time to go do that.

Just a steamer at heart. As you can see from my avatar, at least behind one. None really close, but awaiting 2926 in ABQ to start rolling soon
