Red Sox are 1-4 through yesterday. May not hear much until things improve for the Sox.

Hope you are feeling better Candy !

I just got my taxes in. I had to pay this year. Feds and the state. I am feeling much better and I will be working on my Alley. As I write this I have installed a wall and I'm working on the roof of the extension. I will be posting soon. But I have a question on dimensions 0f the Allies. They seem to be a lot smaller then I first thought. It looks like I can easily get 8 lanes in there.

As for the Red Sox, … I don't want to talk about it :(

I'm sure you know this already, but this is the ABC specification for a bowling lane.

"A regulation sized bowling lane is built 60 feet in length from the foul line to the center of the headpin. Regulation sized bowling lanes are 41-7/8" wide."

Why it's 41-7/8", not rounded to 42" is beyond me. Maybe it has something to do with "Standard" gauge track being 56-1/2". Bowlers and railroaders must live in a squirrely environment all their own.

41-7/8" - The side-to side measurement of Earl Anthony and Dick Weber, standing together side-by-side, from the rear. They were skinny guys.

A bowling alley consists of 39 boards approximately 1" in width, depending on how close together they are assembled the alley can vary between 41" to 42" in width. Board 20 is the center of the alley.

    Hey Candy,
Don't forget to allow room for the gutters.

Not only the gutters but the ball return between every two lanes, on older houses it was above ground, in the newer ones underground.

Wow. There's a memory. I had forgotten all about the above ground returns. And the manual pin setters as well. Yikes. I am getting old...

Besides the manual pin setters, the person doing the pin setting also placed the ball into the ball return, smart ones would not do that until they had cleared the pins so an over zealous bowler did not throw the ball while they were still in the pit.

I bowled in a house in 1998 here in Cleveland that still had the above ground ball returns, there is a small house here in Cleveland that has above ground ball returns every 4 lanes so you have to walk down a couple of lanes to get your ball.
