West end of Rosenberg, Texas from the door of the last Superliner on the tail end of the Sunset Limited. The KCS "Macaroni Line" on the left coming up from Victoria.
Taken Thursday, CSX local F765 is closing out its run and will soon tie up at Lugoff, SC just ahead. Track is the former SAL main.
Optical illusion? At right is an enclosed auto rack, which looks as though off in the weeds and brush of a disused track?
Plenty of power for a local! There must have been much more work they did, requiring such HP? This angle really shows off the home made cab style.
That spur off the mainline splits into two. If you look real close you can see the two rails for the track as they cross a dirt road. The auto rack is set out "bad order" on that track. I believe the auto rack in question is actually in the google photo here. I took my photo in June 2016. google.com/maps/place/29°33'37.7"N+95°48'59.8"W
You're right and I can't figure it out. The train first runs to Columbia and is often much heavier. Under "Precision Scheduled Railroading", CSX has recently changed up our train schedules and I remain totally confused.
I'm in the process of looking for work and a new place in the Turlock/Modesto area. On my Saturday of doing some errands, I came across this ex Cotton Belt GP40-2 #7632 at Chemurgic, Ca:
November 5, 1994 in Cat Springs, Texas. This UP excursion was probably the last passenger train to run on this old MKT line between Houston and Smithville. The section between Houston and Katy, Texas was abandoned in 1997 and paved over with the widening of Interstate 10. The train stopped to let everyone off in a field and then backed up to make two photo runbys , one with ditch light mounted (shown here) and one for old time sake without. Everyone behaved and formed a nice photo line so you could take a picture without a crowd of foamers in the way.
… just a flesh wound. Could make a remarkable modeling project. Evenmoreso, sneaking it out to lead a consist on your club layout.
It's owned by a company with the reporting marks of BUGX. There's a whole area filled with old railroad equipment near Turlock, Ca. There are a couple of old SP SD9s, and GP9s, a Turlock Western GE 44 tonner and an old UP caboose. They've been there for years. Even has dynamic brake and radiator sections stacked in piles.
BUGX supposedly is "Bruggere and Monson". I cannot find anything significant about "Bruggere and Monson" on the 'Net, whoever or whatever that is? From the micro bit located, apparently they are noted for rusting derelicts, and not much more?
I learned on Facebook that Mr. Monson also owns some equipment in Schellville, Ca. (near Sonoma) on the NWP. There were a bunch of old Bessemer F units and some ex SP SDs and various things out there in a yard north of Ca. Rt 12 and in a fenced in area similar to Chemurgic. I've gone by there a few times on my way to Sacramento with a buddy of mine but haven't stopped to photograph anything. Might have to change that before I move.
