some window shades and a temporary stack.

I think I may be done on it. Just needs some filler and sanding.

It was DC only so I had to hardwire everything. Lots of room in O scale! Works flawlessly. Now it’s time for some detailing and weathering 89D65ECA-2BE7-4ABF-B0A9-1911DDC47E11.jpeg

Still fiddling with the think and build project.

Since the train is essentially Tyco being covered with a thin veneer of sorta narrow gauge looking stuff, the ends are posing a problem.

For now I just want to see what people think of my off brand couplers. They're just cut down old style HO couplers.

Since I am going to do all hand uncoupling, I am thinking this is a really cheap way to do couplers.

Lookin’ good. Kadee couplers are relatively cheap and will compliment your efforts well.

I have some somewhere. Ye olde #5's. For now I am amused by using modified horn hooks. ;)

More fiddling around with the low cost practice models.

In the Old Days, I lived about a mile and a half from Caboose Hobbies. If I needed anything while working on a project, I could be there in minutes and get that, obscure, but highly needed, whatever.

    Those days are gone.

While putting on the braces on the unfinished side of the car, I decided that the ends of the car looked wrong. You could see how thin the veneer is. I had to hide that with some more braces!

And then, I lost my mind. My practice car now has " Super Detailing" In the form of one break wheel. [IMG]

As you can see the break wheel has teeth. You shouldn't stand so close to my models!

I had an old broken watch in a can full of screws and nails. Once spotted, it had stuck in my head that I could use the gears fro something.

I'll let you figure out the rest of the story for your self. [IMG]

Thanks. It's actually a lot easier than doing N scale I am finding. And since I now have an attitude of whatever may come, It's a lot of fun.

Since no one else seems to be Doing much, I'll just share my current rash of car building projects.

I now have loco, gondola, and tank car. Up next is a caboose. I am very fond of the gilpin tramway. So I will build a gilpin car at 3' gauge instead of 2' gauge.

Using photo shop I imported a scale rule.

Then I added some blue guides at 6' apart and pasted a gilpin plan in. I needed to scale the gilpin plan to scale it up.

Now I have another image that is a rendering of the car and shows the size of the side planks. I scaled it and then used a 50% opacity to measure the side plank widths.

Need to think more about how to approach this build.

Just getting around to using my paper scaled caboose plans.

Folding the paper allows me to use it as a ruler for window placement. I also use the boards to count and get good vertical lines.

Of course, the age old problem of having your blade split the wood makes for additional repairs before construction.

Since this is a Gilpin caboose it would not have steps. I've misplaced some tools like my pin vice for drilling and my calipers for measuring. Looks like I have to eyeball a lot of it. But i am cheating and I am using the steps from the HO scale caboose on my Gilpin car. No one will notice anyway. If they do notice, they will simply be banished from my train room. :p

I have decided I need a snowplow for my HOn30 line. Since it is a mountain line and I have a snow scene that it is incorporated into the snow plow will fit nicely. To make it work I will be purchasing a bachmann HOn30 car from their Thomas the tank engine line and using styrene building a plow for it. I made a mock-up out of card stock and it looks pretty darn good. The mock-up isn’t to scale but it gives me some ideas. I will need to curve part of the blade. I have heated PVC in the past to mold shapes and curves with great results. I will attempt the same with styrene. Here are the pics of the car, the model, and the mock up. I think this is going to be a fun project.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
