Added another Walthers SW9/1200 to the stable. Got involved with a model RR club operated as part of DARE program by the local police department. Their club signature layout is the Montour RR albeit in HO. But the Montour, all approx. 45 miles, is a nice small road to model. The line was originally owned by coal mines to move coal from the loadout points to the prep plant. They dieselized in the early 1950's with a dozen SW9's as their only road power. Rolling stock was primarily 2 bay offset and rib side hoppers along with five former UP CA4 cabooses. All of which are available in N scale. The Montour is gone now although it still lives on in the form of The Montour Trail, one of the rails to trails projects along with its former parent, the P&LE.

The best way to consist your lashup is to give the same speed curve setting to all the locomotives and then vary the trim (CV66 for forward and CV95 for reverse) to match the speeds. It is the fastest and most efficient way to get locomotives to consist with no issues.

Well, the 'Walthers SW9' is going back. Upon receipt of it everything looked okay but when I removed the shell to add the decoder it was obvious that the Walthers chassis had been switched out and an older Lifelike one installed in its place. No wear pattern on the wheels so I am surmising that someone bought the locomotive and switched the frame keeping the Walthers trucks and returned the locomotive. No one would be able to tell unless they removed the shell as I did. The locomotive was bought on Ebay from a highly regarded vender. I already started the return process thru Ebay. Nice that they provide a return shipping label with prepaid postage. Yeah, I'm disappointed but I don't blame the vender for this as I doubt he or any other vender would disassemble a locomotive just to check that it is, on the inside, what it appears to be on the outside. Spookshow has a write up on this locomotive at:

    http://www.spookshow.net/loco/llsw.html

Interesting to note that, according to Spookshow, the Lifelike/ Walthers shells, "are reportedly a good fit for the Kato NW2 chassis."

Finally recieved the first of a couple of PRR passenger sets.
I guess 3 day Priority means hold in Denver for 3 days, for
no reason, then not deliver on the day promised! Finally arrived today
only 5 days overdue! A nice set of Kato cars, that should go with the
new Broadway limited T-1. Gonna set up shortly, and grab a few photos.

Parts for my Kato locomotives, replacing one bad motor and somehow the pickups for the SD70ACE/SD40-2 Mid Prod, and the SD70M have disappeared, so I had to order a bunch of their replacements. I would love to say the carpet monster got them, but they are to large to use that excuse......

I got some good (mostly) Maine Central stuff from a Craigslist seller getting out of the hobby. His dad used to load pulpwood onto MEC cars in northern NH, which explains the focus.

Atlas GP7 Maine Central (maroon) #561 and #564
    Atlas/Kato RS11 MEC (Harvest Gold) #801 with separate Micro-Trains pilot/coupler kit
    Walthers MEC bulkhead flatcar 3-pack
    Atlas and Roundhouse MEC boxcars
    M-T modern tank car
    Atlas MEC extended-vision caboose
A whole mess of freight car trucks. Most with Rapido couplers, but also with a couple pairs of M-T-equipped trucks.

And finally, the piece de resistance, a shiny Atlas SD35! It's not new, just shiny.

The seller forgot what he was going for here (CNW? Housatonic?). If I can get the paint off of it and fill in the nose headlight without boogering it up then I might paint this SD35 to look like a CR-patched CNJ SD35.

I was very tempted by those on eBay, glad I didn’t bid!

I bought 1 normal brown Microtrains SP 40ft boxcar, 1 of the black MT SP overnight box cars, and 1 of the older ModelPower Black SP Overnight box cars and a set of conversion trucks. And don’t tell my wife, but a Black Widow Kato f3a for my stocking, also. Will need a TCS decoder for it.
I’ll get a matching f3b next pay check and a few more overnight box cars as I find them, the Microtrains seem to be better and cheaper after accounting for the cost of conversion, but I’ll take what I can find! And the model powers seem to be far easier to source.

Also got a Kato loop to put on the kitchen table so I can do more than drive forward and back 2 feet in front of the tv. Though that could be fun if I get my magnets out and make an uncoupler section I suppose!

Put my reservation in, through local Denver store.
Have a Kato rerun of the George Bush 4141 locomotive ordered.
    DCC/Sound. Reservations due by Jan 7, 2019.

    3 versions offered:
    DC
    DCC
    DCC/Sound

Decided I was NOT gonna pay ebay prioces, for a DC version!
I've seen a couple, and they ran north of $300.

Received a couple of Micro-Trains new release Salvage kits for Christmas.
Started to open and inspect this morning and to my shock one of the blocks was cut out by a type of sprue-cutting device. Can see the cut marks to remove the one block very clearly. I don't believe Micro-Trains would ship product like this so I sent a concerning e-mail to the Online Hobby Shop purchased from but as these are out of stock I am now out of luck.
I hope to see if Micro-Trains has a block of mounting devices to repair this kit shorted.
Pics attached-you can see a small block cut out of the assortment and a comparison of kit#2 that is okay.

Just in case has anyone ever built one of these kits to know if I actually need all of the small blocks or possible extras were included? I can't tell yet without starting to work on the kit.

Here is a comparison of a full block kit and the shorted kit.

Looks to me like one block set is for the tank car and the other the boxcar.

Due to the different mounting setups .
