I have a Rivarossi HO Heisler locomotive (HR2412) that is need of repair. Any recommendations? Ken Burr
Hi Ken, Any ideas? Yes. But you might not like my idea'ssss. Sometimes it's just plain difficult to work with an older piece of equipment as parts may or may not be available. But rather then play the world's smallest violin for you let's start with: Can you describe the problem? Can you spot some pictures of it here on TB? Then my last question, would you be willing to send it to someone to have it fixed? If you are lucky you will find someone here on TB that has another one and can either provide parts or send you his or her working model. $$ On the other hand if you are good at tinkering and can make your own repairs...there's a chance it can be fixed.
Thanks for your reply. I did not describe the problem as I do not know the proper terminology. There is a rod that comes up on the left side from what I call the crankshaft which is below the main part of the locomotive. That rod use to go up and down inside a "sleeve" which was mounted on the left side of the boiler. That "sleeve" is now missing so that rod just flops around. I would like to send to some one or some company for repair.
I won't be able to pursue this today. Headed out the door to be with family. I know of a fella who repairs his own Heislers so give me a chance to talk to him and I'll get back here. In the meantime Happy Thanksgiving.
Can you replace this sleeve with another you can make yourself? I have a bunch of old Rivarossi, and it is either that o you look on ebay for the spare (it may take months) or get a non working model as a donor. I assume it is one of the Rivarossi italy. If it is one of the new HRxxxx you may be able to get spares. Inviato dal mio BLN-L21 utilizzando Tapatalk
Besides my seemingl futile efforts to help you, let me suggest you have posted in the right place for help. There are a bunch of us on line that can help. Pretty sure they are celebrating this Holiday and it will be awhile before they get back here. I haven't been able to contact or get a hold of my friend as he is celebrating Thanksgiving with family. It may not be until Monday evening when I actually get his undivided attention. Yes, you can make micky-mouse (sorry Walt D.) some sort of replacement piece but it's unlikely you'll be satisfied with it, if you know what I mean. You can check out the local clubs around you, the train shows and those shows that are sponsored by the local clubs and don't forget the train swap-meets. You may find an old Heisler with the part you are looking for and your problem will be solved. Sorry, but no matter how things work-out finding parts may take longer then your comfortable with. In the meantime we will try to get you squared away.
Thanks for your reply. I don't think I can fix it myself as a part is missing. I do not know if it is an old or new Rivarossi as I received it as a gift a couple of years ago. I was hoping to find someone I could send the locomotive to for repairs.
I finally got through to my good friend. I don't have good news. He has Heislers and Shays but isn't about to part with them. He's had to search various trains shows, club sponsored swap-meets and he had me search the internet for wrecks, looking for parts. He nor I know of anyone out there that fixes them. I would check with any local club. There always seems to be someone there who can tinker with a locomotive and get it running. Sorry about that. One of the things with having high hopes is when you aren't rewarded for having them, when it doesn't work out. Just don't give up.
There are some parts for this currently on eBay, and complete locomotives sell for $50 and up. Here is a company that repairs them: https://seyboldlocomotiveworks.weebly.com/repair-services.html John
Thanks for the referral to Seyboldlocomotiveworks. I emailed them, but after a week of no response, I will keep looking elsewhere.
There is a phone number to call them under "Contacts". Some people just don't check their email often. John
I have emailed Seyboldlocomotiveworks, I have called them and left messages, but I never hear anything back. Are there any other suggestions for repairing my Rivarossi HO Heisler locomotive (HR2412)? Ken Burr
