I'm Barry, Very new (as in weeks) to the train hobby. I have an interest in railways that operated within Arkansas, so far I have been very intrigued with the Missouri Pacific Texas Eagle and through reading about that discovered "The Rock". I am interested in learning before attempting, but so far I'm leaning towards a small N scale layout to start.
Welcome to TrainBoard! Starting small is a good idea. Ask questions, read, learn. This will save you time, money and any potential frustrations! There were many railroads in Missouri. Rock Island, Frisco, M-K-T, BN and more. Not to mention many shortlines and loggers.
Hi Barry, Welcome. Happy you found us. I finally ended up in N-Scale after 70 years. N-Scale is great because you can add so much scenery to give your railroad customers to serve. One railroad in Arkansas that has always fascinated me through its history and photos is the Arkansas & Missouri. They run ALCO engines (for the most part), they make a profit, and they're community friendly.
Sometime in the relatively distant past, Model Railroader did the Arkansas & Missouri as one of their project railroads, didn't they?
Also Trains magazine did a great spread on the A&M a few years back. A&M has been a Trains' favorite for many issues.
