HI Folks: Im beginning to wonder about trying to build a set of well cars for my n scale layout. All the cars available for purchase are prohibitively expensive, so I am thinking I may be able to scratchbuild them. I'll do some things slightly non prototypicaly, like 4 wheel trucks under each end, but I should be able to convey the spirit of it pretty well. What I am wondering however if there are plans (any scale or full scale) out there that I can work from? If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would like to hear them TIM
Are you talking about intermodal well cars? Having four wheel trucks under them is pretty prototypical. Or are you talking about well hole cars, used for oversized load transport?
Tim Do have a look at what we produce. www.nscalekits.com We also have extensive sets of drawings of many of the wellcars [either the heavy duty sort or the intermodal ones [as in Mr. Trainiac's reply] that have been produced from the early 1900's to 2018! There are more kits due out this year - released and announced at the NSE Convention in Salt Lake City later this month. We have also supplied parts rather than whole kits for specific projects, so please PM me with ideas etc. Peter Peter Harris N Scale Kits www.nscalekits.com
Ya, the intermodal kind to transport containers or sometimes semi trailers, often I have seen sets where there is a 4 wheel truck at each end of a group of 3 or 5 and then an odd looking truck at every joint TIM San Luis and Rio Grande
Hey Peter -- thats exactly what I am looking for -- the intermodal kits -- I am looking forward to digging through your site a bit more -- looks awesome
There are sets of well cars that take stand alone cars and connect them with draw bars. Usually in sets of 3 or more.
