Looks like the second unit may have suffered fire damage around its midsection. It's obviously operational, wonder why it wasn't repainted when it was repaired internally. The unit probably was needed and operations didn't want to wait an extra couple of days for the paint to cure.
I just 'hate' it when I see a train while driving and can't get a shot of something neat! Like the wedge plow being pushed by a pair of GP's during a snow-blow while I am trying to stay on the road, or the weird paint job due to misplaced doors, or . . . The bnSF doesn't get into touch up repainting. As long as the unit is functional, run it. Hence, we will see a lot more peeling and damaged paint as time goes on.
Things sometimes are deceiving. Here I zoomed in a bit to see the "damaged" paint. Must have been parked too long on a siding in Los Angeles. Grrrrrrr.
I notice the well used track work! I'm thinking of making some, a very little, of my track resemble that, but it might be difficult to avoid derailing!
