Hey everyone! My name is Rachel, Im almost 30 (yikes!), mother of 1 little fiesty 4 year old little girl (wonder where she gets it from). My boyfriend is a huge model trains enthusiast! He has been around trains pretty much his whole life and has now introduced me to it as well. He has built quite an extensive layout that we are looking to expand. With that said I want to be knowledgeable! I don't want to rely on him for every answer I need when looking for a specific engine, car, caboose (something I'm really looking to learn more about!). Hes from the Midwest (woohoo Illinois!) and I'm from the East Coast! Ive lived just south of DC most of my life and lived in Baltimore (amazing trains we can talk about!!) for about 6 years. I want to learn! I will be on here frequently looking to see what everyone has and really look forward to seeing what everyone has to offer! Thank you in advance for answering my many of questions that I will have!
O scale currently. Once I find a house to buy that will be ideal for an extensive layout, then I'd consider something else. But everything we have is O scale Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
If I had the room, I would love to have a 2 rail O Southern Pacific GP9 or a Pacific Electric freight motor under a wire...
Welcome Rachel. That's great that the three of you are involved in the same hobby. Did you ever visit the B&O museum in Baltimore? Great place with all types of equipment.
That Pacific electric is beautiful! What makes it a freight motor, it looks like what I'm used to seeing as a transfer caboose.. Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
We did go!! Was difficult to really look at detail bc of my then 3yo. But I learned more and really started falling for Steam Engines and cabooses at the Illinois Railway Museum. We will go back to Baltimore at some point tho, there's more he wanted to see. Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
Thank you! I've tried other forums and people weren't always so inviting. My lack of knowledge and the fact I'm a woman seemed to bother some. So thank you! Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
I've been a member of other RR forums in the past. I like TRAINBOARD best. No politics, no flaming, no nitpicking. This is a great place. There are women here also. Candy_Streeter is a female member here. She is an awesome modeler. I wish my modeling skills were as good as hers.
The Pacific Electric was an electrified interurban passenger railroad that had a very busy freight business (moved more freight cars in California than the Union Pacific) until the 1950's. The loco that you see is a home built copy of a Baldwin freight motor (an electric powered freight locomotive)

Welcome aboard! Hopefully you will waste some non-recoverable time looking through the threads in the O Scale forum. You're sure to find some inspiration there somewhere. In the meantime, don't hesitate to throw out any and all questions you may have.
Welcome to Trainboard, Rachel. Keep asking questions and our members are always eager to share their knowledge. I think you will find this to be the place for helping with your family's hobby.
