Or you could just go to the N-scale Varnish's User's Guide and consult the GN and NP pages. While domes might cross over I am not sure there were other cars that were anything alike and the NP coaches were not like anything else on rails (cram 56 passengers into a leg-rest coach... NP did it where most roads were settled on 44 to 48 seats). (Hint... there's not any.)

Not sure how your suggested approach would be any quicker/easier???
Thanks for the info Jerry. Not looking for "hints," but I do appreciate real information.

Compared to digging into books to find the answers? Much quicker to look at a single page or two than it would be to have to go through and compare information presented in a variety of books. I've already done the digging, information is updated as new releases are announced. How much simpler or easier would a person want it to be.

Fair enough. Maybe I should have mentioned that I have all of the FourWayWest NP and GN books, which contain extensive actual consist information for both the NCL and EB. Pretty straightforward to compare consists for specific years to check for similarities. That was the original question. I did just go back and check your NP and GN pages. They appears to provide an extensive listing of products that have been offered in N scale but I'm not sure how they answer the question regarding direct comparison of NCL and EB consists for various years.

1967 CN Super Continental. I mean CN did buy the Lake sleepers, Superdomes and Skytops from the Milwaukee Road for it.

I'm NO rivet-counter. I'd splash a few hundred on a train that looks great and runs amazing, don't give two mouse turds about whether the window arrangements or seat counts were photo. Just.... get it close and most of us are happy. Kato spent decades painting non-photo passenger trains that were "good enough", and other brands still do (and they sell!)

The proverbial $64 question is why has Kato never done that for the NP?

Just a thought. They need to complete the trilogy. We already have the Super Chief and the El Cap. Now we need the Chief with a Big dome.

I really hope that they don't. The NCL is highly demanded, and I'm sure Kato knows this. If that means they hold off for ten years before painting anything in the Loewy scheme, than so be it. I just want them to continue with the outstanding "name train" prototypical releases and not slide back towards the "good enough" releases. I understand that they need to pay the bills and keep something flowing to the retailers. If they don't have time/money to do the next Hiawatha right now, then do the Twin Cities Zephyr. That is three shells and done.

I'm still hoping to be around by the time Kato gets to the NCL consist... but... I would be highly disappointed if they slipped back to the 'good-nuf-fer' N scale non-prototypical stuff. I would not mind minor stuff like wrong undercarriage equipment or interiors which are not exact. But they need to do the right size, body type, windows, domes, roof details etc.... as close as possible.

For those of us who are starting to get that feeling of running on "borrowed time", and looking at this photo:

I wonder if the following "mash-up" (plus, perhaps, some new tooling) would be good enough to satisfy the majority of customers?

Baggage car: Storage Mail car from the UP COLA set
Mail Dormitory car: Baggage-Dormitory car from the UP COLA set
Dome Coach (2): Dome car from smoothside car set or Dome Chair from the UP COLA set
Coach (flat-top) (2): from smoothside car set or the UP COLA set
    Diner: from smoothside car set
Lounge car: Lounge Car from the UP COLA set
Sleeper car (flat-top) (2): new tooling (or one of the previously tooled sleeper cars from the smoothside set, COLA or BL)
Dome sleeper car (2): new tooling (or 2 additional dome coach/chair cars)
Observation car: from smoothside car set

Plus an A-B-A set of the existing F3 or F7 locos.

Hmmm...I don't know....if they did a San Francisco Chief instead, we might get more cars. Or a Kansas Cityan/Chicagoan. But Big Domes, one way or the other.

Still, the one that I am surprised no one has done (when you figure that between Fox Valley and Kato there are 2 Hiawathas out there) is the

1937 Budd Super Chief with E1s.

It seems like a natural. I have absolutely no need for it on my planned 1956 era layout- it would be an anachronism, but I would buy one in a heartbeat.

It's not as though no one has ever made a model of that train.
Oriental Limited imported a brass model from Kumata about 35 years ago.

Well, yes, I know. But I want one that runs like a Kato. And the discussion thread is on what we would like to see Kato produce next. One could have a NCL or EB or Rocket as well, if you are willing to build everything from car sides. Somebody must have done a TA shell at some point.
