Lionel Looney Tunes Tasmanian Devil 40th Birthday boxcar 2 Lionel bridges All of the above, from railroad club train show this past weekend, Dec 8-10. And now waiting on an MTH WIU - Wi-Fi Interface Unit Will allow me to run my trains via my iPad! Whether by a Home Wi-Fi network, or the built in MTH network. That’s gonna be a fun experiment when it arrives!
Cool idea, Keith. These are my latest purchases from a train show December 2. K-line cop and robber scale size gondola. Lionel Erie cars. I was looking for an Erie caboose but got a good price on the 4 cars. And these 3 K-line boxcars.
Good finds Keith and I love your Erie equipment Joe. I have the similar 6517 Caboose like the one pictured below and I'm really glad that I kept it. It makes me smile as much today as it did 50 Years ago.
The 6517 is a great caboose and could easily pass for an Erie caboose. I had a chance to buy one for a decent price at a train show a couple years ago and regret passing on it.
I often feel that the scale centric qualities of model railroading are a pain. public posting is also down on TB. IMHO all of the "what's new" threads should be rolled into one thread for all scales. We should be embracing our hobby regardless of scale or location. That's just me.
My WIU Wi-Fi unit arrived Saturday! Took maybe 5 minutes to get connected. A bit longer to get things running, because I failed to connect to the MTH wi-fi, at first! Once I linked the ipdad and the WIU together, I was running an engine in a minute or so! Control of locomotives is MUCH better than the DCS remote, IMO. Speed control is incredible! et ipad down, a couple minutes later, I noticed my F3 set had creeped about 2 FEET, from where I stopped it! Nice, easy access to the features and functions. From speed control screen, a quick swipe UP, and you have access to lights, smoke, PFA RPM/Labor up/down, Boost/Brake, Protocast etc... Once I found it, I went ahead and paid the $25, for the Premium upgrade. Allows for access to ALL features/functions that the DCS remotes has, and more! The only thing I have NOT figured out, is HOW to add a Lionel TMCC/Legacy locomotive. Supposed to be able to add and run those locomotives as well. I gotta try to figure that out next! The only other thing I had to get, was a USB/RS-232 adapter! My TIU is an original, so it does NOT have a USB connection. The newer versions have a USB plug. Overall, I'm quite happy with my purchase and howw well it works! Bet I will NOT have interference at train shows, if I run trains with it! I've had interference problems in the past, with DCS remote. Actually like it BETTER the the DCS remote!
I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised as to how easy it is to set up, and how well it works. After doing some searching, and reading, i think I’ve found out why I was having TMCC trouble. I just need to wire the TMCC control base into the TIU output wire. Might have to try later Sunday, once I’m sort of awake and almost alive! Have 3 Atlas O GP60’s and an Atlas O SW-9 that are all TMCC equipped. If I can run those, that’d be great! If i have to use the TMCC Cab-1, I have no problem with that. Although, I do NOT like the Cab-1 control(s). Don’t like the reaction, or lack of..... Speed control lacks something to be desired. Will see if the WII set up makes a difference there!

These two buildings arrived on my doorstep 12/29. They are from my wife. Tavern Burger for Christmas and Frank's IGA for my birthday. I listed them in my layout thread but forgot to list them here.
The mailman brought a couple of goodies today. The ice cream shop is for the city area. I'm not sure where the signal will go yet.
Would like to be able to set up some simple Red/Green signals on the temporary layout I build for yearly club train show. Just something to provide a bit more action! An attention getter!
Just received the last 2 cars for a full Lionel Polar Express train set! Found the original release, plus the various add-on cars! Including the Disappearing Hobo and Announcement car! Last 2 cars arrived today, a pair of boxcars. A nice set, that’s going downstairs and on display later tonight! For total train of 10 cars! On display shelf now, with just enough room to put the BN 1991 SD60 on display. And received an MTH BigBoy, purchased from another TB member. Did NOT realize that beast was that heavy! Over 35” long, and weighs over 19 pounds! Didn’t run, or sound good, when I checked it though. However, the massive 80 watt transformer was NOT helping! Gonna try my Z-4000 tomorrow sometime! Also think the onboard battery for sound might be dead.
Congrats on the new acquisitions, Keith. The battery is most likely the problem. Hopefully, if you let it charge a few minutes it will run and sound great.
I also think the 80 underpowered transformer wasn’t helping! Might try my MTH Z4000 later. Was getting good and bad sounds, when I first tried testing it. Also not sure if possible extreme heat in a UPS/FedEx truck messed with things temporarily? I’d be happier yet, if I could get a PS-2 upgrade kit for it! Still, it’s a monster that looks pretty darn good!
If it has a bad battery it will need to charge for 5 to 10 minutes to have enough charge to run the engine. From what I've seen even a bad battery will hold enough charge to run the engine but will need to be charged each time you run it. It won't hold enough charge overnight to run the next day without charging. Upgrading to PS2 would be a big improvement if it's possible. Let us know how it works out.
It actually has a J&W electronics BCR(Battery Component Replacement) in it. Should have to,apply power for 1 minute to charge and use. I let it go for up to 15 minutes with no luck. My Z-4000 would not even run it! Manage to let the smoke out of something! Gotta have it looked at, and when i get the chance, I’m gonna have it converted to PS-2 control/sound. Along with several other PS-1 locomotives. Unless I can get a stock replacement sound board for it.
