Follow me on my y6b 2-8-8-2 build. All parts will be made of brass. Mostly photoetched parts at home. I am Using a marklin br96 chassis. The wheel diameter and spacing are the same as the y6 so it works perfectly. The tender had been etched with raised rivets. This won’t be completed in a week so follow my progress if you’re interested in a home etched, scratch built steam engine. This first etching was just a trial run
It’s too late now to assemble it. Hopefully the next couple of days will show the tender completed. All the major parts have been etched.
Holy Toledo, Aaron. I have been a model railroader for 55 years and you have more daring and patience than I ever have had. It looks real good, so far. Doug
I’m scaling directly from the original n&w drawings so this should be extremely close to accurate. Rivets aren’t to scale or accurate in number. There are limitations at home.
There isn't much that needs done to the chassis. the 0-8-8-0 configuration is easily converted to the 2-8-8-2. I actually started with the chassis so it is completed. The front pilot was the hardest part.
This is very impressive. I would love to see a picture of your unfinished brass pieces alongside a US quarter and dime. I don't think my brain is fully internalizing just how small these pieces are yet.
