YOU. ROCK. We CB&Q fans have wanted, no, needed an N scale caboose for years. I still have to scratch the specific one for my layout but I will be getting a few of the CB&Q and BN versions. One more thing. YOU ROCK!

I don't need this particular caboose, but did want to chime in to say that I think this production plan has a lot of merit. Resin copies from an RP master strikes me as more economical for those who would want multiple copies, and frankly, I have found resin castings much easier to work with than the parts I've received from Shapeways. Will definitely be watching as you develop more products.

Will pricing for the resin copies be the same as the Shapeways version? More/less?

Great question Tom, it will usually be less. Also, all of our "products" are commissioned by our customers, so if there is anything you want us to make, we can give you a quote.

@Orion Field Do you consider a caboose a freight car? Also are your Custom Designed Decals for N scale. I do not have measurements of the model or prototype, just photos. Can you create a N scale caboose model and the decals for that caboose model from just the photos?

    Thank you,

Yes, I do consider it a freight car. My decals are in any scale you want them to be, and n scale is totally fine. Yes, I can create a caboose model from just photos, but I will need some thing to scale the photo with, like an overall length, or something. Pm me what you have in mind.

Hello...Any progress on the release of this caboose?
I'm also interested in the M88 model you have on the website as well.
    Thanks!!!

So, after reviewing the first castings, I wasn't happy with the quality, so I am retooling the prototype to be easier to cast. In short, it's going to take a bit, but I will keep you all updated.

The m88 wasn't able to be cast as is either and will also need to be retooled.

a few months now and no real info on progress...however I noticed you posted your intro to these products on another well known model railroad forum just yesterday. What is the status of your product? is it ready to ship?

No, I am retooling the CAD designs to make them easier to cast. That process is close to being done, maybe another day or two. Then I can reprint some masters, clean them up and send them back to my resin guy. I don't want to release anything that is subpar, that's why I'm delaying things until they meet my expectations. I'm also involving my resin guy at the early design phases of any new models, to make sure we don't have a repeat of this situation.

UPDATE!!! The new masters are on their way to me for approval and clean up, then they will be sent to be cast. All Four versions of the NE-12 are going to be released at the same time. The as delivered CBQ Version, 4 window on each side BN version, 3 Window on each side BN version, No Window BN and MRL version. I'll let you know when the resin is ready for sale.

I would rather wait for well designed and made correct and well made. Have seen to many rush and have a poor product.

Thank you! I completely agree. They'll be ready when they're ready. In the mean time. I started a Pinterest account, if you pick any subject on there, I'll discount the commission cost by 25%.

Is there a link to where the new cabooses are for sale?

Are any of the other projects in this thread being considered? It seems like new bodies designed to fit the Micro-Trains chassis would be feasible. Even if all dimensions might not be perfectly to scale, as long as the proportions were believable, any proposed new body style cars (such as a side door caboose) would be better than not having any at all!

Yes, they were, and hopefully still will be, we're making some more progress on getting the right resin for these parts, but in the mean time, I made the executive decision to start selling the 3D versions, just so we could get some income coming in. I am meeting with a new, local 3D printing vendor today to replace Shapeways, so I'll let you know how that goes too.
