Forgot about this- And Seems these are hard to find...they outta do a rerun... A set of WOT Bus collection to add to my Future IMEX Greyhound station, Greyhound Station without busses? I think this creation is about 6 months off from the main town being completed...
A couple of friends recommended the NEC as being great for a first time user. I also decided to jump the shark and get a Arnold Northern Pacific U25C and two decoders, one for it and one for my Fox Valley Cotton Belt GP60.
I started with MRC system MRC 1422 Prodigy Explorer DCC System later bought MRC #1415 Prodigy Advance Walkaround with 6' cable and could not get tech support from them-for some odd problems that I think were compatibility issues between those 2 units-Locos would all of a sudden become unstoppable without grid shutdown. Each MRC item worked great separately even thought they said compatible. This is from experience and not hearsay so I hope no offense taken at TrainBoard. So I sold two perfectly good MRC items on e-bay and purchased NCE Power Cab. Today the NCE Power cab is everything I need but I think with my future expansions line I will need wireless.
One my HCD I could probably still use it get the other side of the layout. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I dipped my toe into E Bay finally. It started innocently enough. Someone had a figure of an anime character that I've loved for a long time. Bought her and then created an account. Found a Bachmann Doodlebug for $63 and a DD40AX with DCC $79. I know new DD40AXs come with sound so I might try that later. The Doodlebug should be easy to convert f it isn't.
John, You'll like that a lot. Easy to setup if you've never used DCC before, pretty much plug and play out of the box for basic DCC with lots of extras for more advanced DCC use. I had a hi filutin' digitrax thing when I first started and ended up (literally) throwing it out and buying an NCE Power Cab Starter System and haven't looked back since. I have since added a 5 amp booster but nothing more.
Yeah, a couple of model railroader buddies both recommended it, and I watched a couple of videos on YouTube about it. My layout is simple, an oval with a two track yard and a couple of sidings. This way, I can start small and work my way up!
That is a smart way of doing things as well. Have fun with it and I guarantee, you'll get the DCC bug
I bought my layout room a rollaround office chair, $55 at a local big-box discount store. This will allow me to run trains in my little layout room while seated. (#1) My arthritis gives me some trouble getting up or standing very long. Office chair allows me to roll back a few inches without getting up, to build models on work table that rolls out from under layout.(#2) I can roll over to pull rolling stock from my box storage of some 300 freight cars.(#3) I can roll to other corner of room to pull tools, paint, materials from storage about 6 inches to 3 feet above floor on book shelves.(#4) It is easier for me to reach these while seated. And I can roll over to my reference library for information.(#5)
I like the idea. Because of my disabilties I bought a mechanics stool to cruise down the aisle of THERR. http://www.kmart.com/craftsman-adjustable-mechanics-seat/p-005W054035110001P
Store-brand petroleum jelly at the neighborhood supermarket, 97 cents. After ten years with no working layout, my new layout is far enough along that I can be concerned with tuning my rolling stock for dependable coupling, etc. Had a car that rolled too freely and had false uncoupling over MTL magnet. I had some MTL truck restraining springs from ages past, had only used a few of them. I found my palsied hands shake too much to get springs in position on end of wheelset. The MTL directions advised using a dab of Vaseline on wheelset set to hold spring in place while truck reassembled. I had never bothered with that. I could put it in place OK by hand - - - ten years ago. Now I can’t. So the petroleum jelly becomes another accommodation for N railroading in my 70s.
