Yeah, I've heard that Micro-Scale was going to stop or had stopped making some of their decal sets. The Burlington pre merger decal set was one. So were the several WP sets. So, when I saw how many were still available, I bought a bunch.

Took a big leap today. I was watching a video on Kato's channel on putting a decoder in one of their FEFs. It looks waaay too easy, so I ordered one on line. I have an Athearn Challenger with a decoder already installed with sound. No sound for the FEF right now, sound decoders for it were sold out, I'll have to save it for later when I get better at installs. I already have an Atlas GP35 and the undecorated GP35 with decoders, so I'm sort of on my way. At least with a DCC system I can now turn down the volume of my Challenger. It's too loud in my dinky apartment!

    Hi all,
Not the latest, but last scanned (insurance records and 'collective database') and first hobby purchase in 3 years (along with some Consignment pieces).
Yes a 'foob' of known proportions, but an update on the Con Cor cars of yesteryear...

Just starting a new (from scratch) layout so buying things bit by bit. Most recent order/purchase (last night) being 20 Micro DPDT toggle switches and 16 DCC Concepts Cobalt Point Machines.

Next purchase, over the forth coming weeks, will be 175' of Peco Code 80 Flex track and 16 various Peco turnouts.

My last purchase, prior to the above, consisted of

    2 X Kato GEVO ES4400AC engines
    2 X Kato F42 Genesis Engines
1 X set of Kato Amtrak Superliners
2 X Kato Gunderson Intermodal sets
    1 X Kato Autorack set
Qty of Tank Cars and Hoppers from Micro Trains.

All of which will be used on the new layout

Have you considered using PECO code 55 track?
The bottom part of the rail is buried in the tie strip, so it's more durable than the code 80 track.
Also, for the code 55 track, the spike heads on the inside are shorter than on the outside of the rail, so wheel flange clearance is similar to that of code 80.

If you're having the flex track shipped to you, make sure it comes in the original sealed boxes of 25 or 30 pieces (for code 80 or code 55).
So, order in multiples of 25 or 30 pieces.
Loose pieces of flex track are a challenge to pack properly and don't travel particularly well.

    Point353,

Thanks for the info and yes, I did consider Code 55 and do understand that it is very durable, maybe more so than Code 80. To be honest, I prefer the look and feel of the Code 55 but I went with Code 80 for the following reasons:

    1. I have about 30' of new (unused) Peco Code 80 track left over from my other N Scale layout.
    2. I have about 100' of good condition Code 80 track that is reusable.
    3. I have 10 Peco Code 80 turn outs also in new condition.
    4. Peco Code 80 has more "insulfrog turnouts" than Code 55 and electrofrogs don't like me at all, nor I them.

Had I not had that amount of virtually new Code 80, I might have gone Code 55 as the Code 55 has double cross overs where as the Code 80 doesn't. I'd then have to "deal with" electrofrogs though and that isn't something I really care to frustrate myself with - going on prior experience with them, albeit HO.

As for the shipping, I have bought a lot of track from a well known supplier and always buy in packs of 25 so they always, or have always, arrived in the original packaging. The only way I would buy "loose flex track" is if I could go into a store select the lengths I wanted and pick it up myself for the reasons you rightly mentioned.
