Does anyone know who made these trailers? They look to be 40 scale feet. The print quality is typical early 1970s and they appear to be factory-painted.

I am pretty sure they are not Atlas. Perhaps they are well-painted Boyd kits? Any help would be welcome.

I thought so at first as well. I don't own a Con-Cor 40 foot trailer, so I looked online at various N Scale Con-Cor 40' trailers, but they all appear to have riveted sides, where these guys have completely smooth sides. Also the under-frames are markedly different.

Here is two example eBay listings of Con-Cor flat cars with 40' trailers:

Model Power??? These maybe of European manufacture and could be marketed under different brands similar to the heavyweight passenger cars sold under the Model Power, Lima or Riva Rossi labels.

Steve is right. I have two of these in Santa Fe in unpainted grey plastic with a large (and faded) red logo and with Piggyback Service printed on each side with Road Number SFNX-669. I found a listing of them in the 1973 JMC catalog below. My trailers have no landing gear, nor do the PRR trailers in your photo. I'm left wondering if the catalog photo was correct and that they were actually equipped with such. An interesting find George! I'd completely overlooked these and can take a photo of one of my Santa Fe trailers if you'd like.

Page 4! Not sure how I missed those. I believe they were supposed to come with landing gear (supports?) but the two I obtained had none.

I would love to see a photo of your Santa Fe's.

The trailers were made in Germany by Roskopf Miniatur Modelle.

Both Boyd Models and Con-Cor marketed them in the US. While the Con-Cor models were decorated, all of my examples of the Boyd Models are undecorated.

Here is an example of one from the original Con-Cor release in 1970.

..... and there's a landing gear too. I never knew that tractors were also available.

The White 7400 tractors were available from both Boyd and Con-Cor.

And here is the same tractor updated with Trainworx truck parts.

Edit: It really needs to go through the truck wash! ;)

The landing gear on these trailers was easily broken, especially if you tried to raise it. They folded up (back), but the pivot point is essentially a square peg in a round hole.

I will try to get a photo of the landing gear in a "retracted" position.

I should add, the trailers are not bad for their age. They could be easily updated with Trainworx trailer parts.

Here is a view of the raised landing gear of a Boyd Models (also Con-Cor) RMM trailer.

The top outside corners of the landing gear legs were beveled in an attempt to make them appear vertical when the landing gear is lowered, as well as making it easier to raise and lower the landing gear.

I must say that interest in N Scale vehicles is an aspect of our hobby that I was not familiar with until I joined Trainboard. The link in your posts [ http://nscalevehicles.org ] is fascinating and I am astonished at the work I see. Very cool!

As a card-carrying member..... interesting as a model but I'd love to see any proof that red Santa Fe scheme ever existed on a trailer. Looks pure Foobie to me, although a rather logical-looking one.

As I do '72, the changover from the red 'Santa Fe" billboard to the 'flying herald' in blue was just going on, and it was far later where the stretch "Santa Fe" in blue was across the trailers. The banded red/cream older scheme on 35' has been well-done by Classic Metal Works.
