Interesting viewpoint. Taken from an engine cab?

We were stopped, Elko wasn't moving any trains so I walked to the bridge going over those tracks and took the picture.

Was this recent? Not moving any trains. Maybe after the earthquake?

I read an article in an older CTC Board mag about the old 7th Sub (former WP?), and how before the UP/SP merger, that UP would hold trains of the competition if a train of their own was anywhere in the county. That article said that county was as large as some states! Based on that, I'll bet he wasn't referring to Rhode Island....

Ken,
That picture was taken before the earth quake in Wells. The reason for no trains moving was lack of rested crews to go east of Elko.
HemiAdda2d,
That may have happened but it was a two way street, SP could do the same with UP trains going west. The track was in such poor shape that UP had given thought to getting out of the double track agreement and making it CTC for two way train traffic. UP ended up merging with SP and things stayed the same but UP paid to repair the track.
