We have not had a topic like this in a while and it's about time, with the hobby season fast approaching. This time the subject is Z Scale Passenger Trains. Let's all post pictures of our favorite passenger trains to share! Any era, Any country, prototypical or fantasy, let's see them all! [IMG]

It's been a long time since I have had modeling time, so I decided to set aside 15 minutes a day again, to make some progress. I just finished repainting a set of the reworked MTL F7's. I drawbared the ABA set together, and used Uhlenbrock Comfort Mini 73400 decoders, all 3 programmed to the same address.

I made the decals on my Alps, and painted them up in the last passenger scheme the Northern Pacific used before the merger into Burlington Northern:

Here is my previous favorite I painted up a few years ago, again Northern Pacific, but this time a steam era 2-6-0 Mogul that I repainted from the Marklin Rio Grand Bumble Bee set:

My favorite passenger train is the 1950s Empire Builder (I rode it as a kid). This is an AZL E7 and I kit bashed the RPO.

Nice shot John. Can't say I have an official set, but I have an oldie. An SP mogul with UP Marsulis passenger coaches.

I have big plans for my Alaska passenger sets which include Marsilius and MTL versions. I’ve been itching to model them for so long now but will have to wait a while longer. Now, if I only had the right locos to pull them…… in the mean time here are a couple of photos of the real thing.

I know about plans... I have trying to do my NP Passenger set for years. I actually started on the passenger cars about 5 years ago, but could not get an ABA set of F7's that run well enough to pull a train until the MTL Western Maryland set came out with window glazing. The reworking they did to the mechanism and powered B unit was just the upgrade I needed. [IMG] I still have a bunch of MTL UP Domes and Marsilius coaches to paint up.

I am working on a train set also. Its the CSX business train special. Its just not ready for pictures, but it will be ready after I decal the cars. My train will consist of a FR F40PH with four or five MTL passenger cars and one Marsilius.

Nice passenger trains. I really like the NP scheme Robert. I wish I had a time machine to go back to the hey day of passenger trains!

This is my favorite passenger train. It's a string of Pennzee heavy weights and a Marklin Pacific all decorated for my Central & Far Western Railroad.

This is another of my favorites. It's re-painted and re-lettered Marklin old time passenger cars and a Aspen Model 4-6-0 steamer kit on a Marklin mechanism also decorated for my C&FW RR.

I missed out on the Pennzee heavyweights myself, so had to use the Hallmark ornaments. I hope we will see heavyweights again in Z.

The last update I have from AZL is that they were review the art and doing performance testing. These cars should not be too far out. I have had a chance to play with a couple. They are excellent! Lots of detail.

    Passenger stock

Well before Marsilius and Micro trains we had to find other ways so here are some pictures of my stock. PA's ala Hallmark, Heavy weight passenger cars ala Hallmark som modified to produce a dinner, a coach, a baggage express car. then a pewter conversion of a Marklin Pacific to a pensy steamliner and smooth side cars from Japan, then a rail diesel car with articulated lead unit and trailer, plus some old time cars which have not got their etched porches on them yet. they are not pretty but then in the late 40 and early 50's very little was pretty.

    cheers Garth

I made a few of the Hallmark cars too. They actually look pretty good for being made from a Christmas Tree ornament!

I've wanted to do the Florida Fun Train for several years now. I do have two of FR's F40's of which I plan on using one for the Fun Train. Both are undec so will be easy to mask and paint.

As for the passenger cars, those will mostly be etched and bashed together to look like the real thing. All in all it should be a one of a kind!!! Now I just need to get started on it! Too bad the Fun Train was a short lived experience. Sure would be nice if more photos existed of it!

That would look cool at shows too! I think people really like the colorful trains best.
