You Design It, I'll Try and Build It

Here's the deal. I've spend hours trying to come up with a design for a siding on my new layout. I've always wanted a scrap yard but I'm afraid now this area might be too small. It's 2" from the track to the edge, and 6" from the track to the mainline. The total length of the siding is 36".

I'm looking for any and all ideas, and I'll give anything a try. I need the practice and am not afraid to try it and rip it out and try it again.

You could still put a scrap yard there, just put a crane near the edge of the table, and then place a pile of scrap on the other side of the tracks, That should make a nice
scrap yard.

That is a great post, some very good tips on making a scrap yard. And to think I've been tossing all that good stuff out!:tb-confused:

 

This was the photo that headed me towards a scrap yard in the first place. I searched out your other posts on how you built and told myself I could never do anything that looks that good. I think I just need to go for it.

I appreciate that Davis Salvage "inspired" you to build a scrap yard. Just jump in with both feet. The scrap piles are made from the peel off tops of coffee cans. I cut them into small lengths then toss them in a coffee can. I then add thinned Floquil (various earth/rust colors) and shake the can to coat the scrap. When dry, just pile it up where ever you need it and glue it in place. I still need to add other various scrap such as old refrigerators, used rebar, and such. Use your imagination and have fun with the project.
