Hi everybody. I'm looking into modelling the Ogden, UT yards in Z and was wondering if there is a good book/magazine article on making yards (in any scale). I have XtrkCad, so I'll be using that to map it out with, but I always welcome (and encourage) helpful hints. Thanks.
:tb-winkoc, I'm not a yard guy so I can't help with that. But don't get to busy and forget about our Z steamers! Cheers, Jim CCRR
Track Planning for Realistic Operation: Prototype Railroad Concepts for Your Model Railroad (Model Railroader)(3rd Edition) (Paperback) by John H. Armstrong This is available at lots of hobby shops and probably from some of the Trainboard sponsors, too. Most neighborhood bookshops should be able to get this, too, as Ingram (distributor) carries Kalmbach's books. My wife ordered for me from her little bookshop. This one I consider to be a very important book for all sorts of railroad track planning dilemmas. It's the best one I have found. As far as prototype information, you might try the SPV Railroad Atlas of North America volume that covers Utah. I think Utah is lumped in with Colorado. Good luck! Adam
Did you want to optimize space? Recreate a real one or? Did you want stub end or run through? Were you intending to use include engine house / caboose track and other details?
I'm looking to model the real yards within a 3' X ? for a modular system in Z, so I can effectively have 3/8 of a scale mile to play with.
