I recently purchased 2 SW-1's during the two for that they ran. I wanted to make the beacons operable, but have not found and parts for the beacon itself. My thoughts are to use some light pipe and make one and paint it with clear amber paint. Then I can glue an SMD LED to the bottom of the light pipe. What do you guys use?

I use a piece of 3/32" styrene tube, closed at the top with (can't remember which) either 1/16" or 1/32" styrene rod. Painted the styrene orange, and then used an 0402 SMD LED (yellow) as the light, glued into the bottom of the housing - you could also use an 0603.

Here's a video of the result (this is with an ESU LokSound decoder)
