I tired of making buildings, so I painted some engines. Now, back to the buildings. This weekend, I put roofs on all the buildings in my two-block area. Each roof is different using different colors or material. Now, I can see it will take a long time to add all the roof detail. There is a lot to do, but it will be fun taking my time on each building. After the roof tops, I will detail the sidewalks and streets. It was a good layout party for me, as this area of my layout certainly needed attention. Without the party, I probably wouldn't have taken the time to do this. Now, I am going back through the thread to see everyone else's progress.
I finally completed my layout party project - cassettes for a portable staging yard and storage. It consists of a lot these... ...stored on brackets like these... ...that slide up to two ramps... ...and then the locomotives simply take'em away!
Is this party over yet? Those certainly are nice staging cassettes, William Cowie. Good idea for stabilizing lengthwise, too. What amazes me is how guys keep coming up with the new ideas. It goes on and on. On my layout section using Peco code 55, I am going to change a turnout. Out of 225 #6 and #8 turnouts on this layout (about 200 of those are Peco Electrofrog), this is the only #4 turnout on the layout and it is the only one of the 225 that has failed mechanically. (Peco #4 turnouts were not available as Electrofrog types when I constructed my layout.) I am going to replace it with a Peco Electrofrog curved turnout. Part of that will be to decrease the curved turnout radius so it will fit better. I plan to use the Bernard Kempenski technique of using a heat gun to "reform" the ties. It doesn't have to be curved much more and I might get by without the heat gun. We will see. Here is the number four in place and then the curved turnout as I propose to change it.
