About 2 weeks ago The same railroad, but times they have a-changed. New power, new economic realities, more brass/copper thieves in the area.

Those old GP20s are cool! Looks like they've been deturbocharged and had paper air filters installed.

For the second photo, I'd say that in addition to the thieves, the vandals (sorry, artists) have done their share of mischief too.

    An oldie but a goodie:

Temiskaming & Northern Ontario (later Ontario Northland) 503, a 2-8-0 built by CLC in October 1930. Behind that is an ex-Trans-Europe Express coach/control cab, retired from ONR's Northlander service, and looking a bit worse for wear. The TEE trainsets had a power car at the front and one of these control cabs at the rear. Ontario Northland was a bit skittish about running something as light as this in front - grade crossing collisions - so they ran two trainsets back-to-back so they could have a power car at both ends and not have to turn the whole train around to do the return journey.

These are on display on the (Lake Nipissing) waterfront in North Bay, Ontario. My photo, July 31st, 2009.

Horizon Rail 3134 has been leased by the Austin Steam Train Association to pull their excursion trains while their three other locomotives await repair. I can trace its lineage back to Penn Central 3118. Probably started out as a Pennsylvania RR GP40.

03/31/2017 finds cold and heavy rain at Somerville, NJ on the former CNJ mainline. The locomotive is a Bombardier ALP-45DP and can operate on diesel power or overhead electric, with the pantograph set within the roof bay at the rear of the locomotive.

A few weeks ago, I went out with some friends to do some railfanning. I was mostly filming, so I didn't get a lot of still photos. This is Metra 214, an F40phm-2. IMG_0221.JPG

The steel cages around the horns is what really struck me.

I got really lucky Friday evening and spent 45 minutes watching lots of train action on the east end of the yard here. First some power came off the service track lead and dopped by a coal load to back onto it's train of empty oil cans. Then a train of loaded oil cans raced into town, followed by the departure of the coal load and then the empty oil cans. Whew!

There are 5 videos, this is part 1. I zoomed in on the rail joint action during the departure of the two eastbounds, the one joint was really moving.
