Time for another edition of Weekend Proto Fun! I've been going through pictures this week and found this one that was taken on Black Friday back in 2008. The wife had something special she wanted to get and the only place that had it was across town. I didn't complain since there was a really good LHS near where she wanted to go. The additional bonus was that the Southeastern RR Museum had a visitor that day. Had a lot of near misses with this unit over the years and had pretty much figured I'd probably never catch up with here but that day, the cards were in my favor. Funny thing is after se was repainted to the standard black NS scheme just before the heritage engines were release, I have seen the 4610 many times. Enjoy the weekend!

From 07/12/1981 on the former PRR at Hudson, OH about 25 miles southeast of Cleveland. The 6334 is an SD-40.

Mount Vernon Terminal RR Baldwin S12 #505, Mount Vernon, Washington. Note in the second photo. She is parked outside, as she replaced a much smaller switcher, and 505 will not fit into their tiny engine house:

That's a cool unit Boxcab! Is it me or does that black stripe down the side of the unit look spray painted on?

In the last month or so, the BNSF has replaced most of the old semaphore blade signals on the Raton or Glorieta Sub (I can't remember which) in New Mexico with modern lights. I took this photo in July of 2014.

A friend just told me "Those were between Shoemaker and Watrous, and they are now gone."
He said BNSF and AMTRAK have an exemption for PTC on this line as there are only two trains on it each day, the Southwest Chief, one in each direction. However if it someday is required, it would not be hard to install with the new lighting. The semaphores were installed in the late 1930s, are costly to maintain and all will be refurbished at the BNSF signal shop in Springfield, Missouri, and donated to various museums and other organizations. All are spoken for so will be preserved. There are still a few left at the west end of the line that will be replaced sometime next year.

I did not realize that there were only two trains per day on that sub. Wouldn't you know that I/we was on the south/westbound Chief, a couple years back, when she was running so late that we had to wait at the pass for the east/northbound Chief to clear it before we could proceed into the Raton station.
