Illinois Railway museum Don't remember the year at all except it must have been after 1999, because I went with my wife...possibly when she was still my Girlfriend.
And dual gauge track, too! Control Point 18.9 is all red for eastbound traffic with no eastbounds for a while, and 2 grain trains struggling to get up the hill out of Minot. WB BNSF grain loads labor west at Des Lacs, ND. The wooden structure at right once was a steam-era water tower.
Taken 02/18/2018, a CSX local rolls east over the former SAL bridge spanning the Congaree River in Columbia, SC. This line was completed by the South Bound Railroad in the late 1890s and was absorbed in to the Seaboard in 1901. Looking at the bridge piers, it appears that concrete piers were later added between the old stone piers to support a stronger bridge and increased train weights. The bridge truss just behind the SAL bridge is Norfolk Southern's and it's actively used as well.
Thanks, Kurt. I'm scratching the surface of night photography. This was what happened when no trains were running.... That shot required a high ISO (800) wide open f/1.8 aperture, and a short ~10 sec exposure time. Hardcoaler, I had to look at your shot on my computer, as the number of piers was confusing as to which set belonged to which bridge! The mobile phone view made it hard to follow. That shot begs for elevation, and a train in the opposite direction on the rear bridge!
1630 is a Russian Decapod. If remember correctly Eagle Pitcher purchased from the Frisco. Have rode behind many times.
