Hi (again!) Bremner, My father in law once collected postcards and in his collection I found this card postmarked July 1, 1911 in Los Angeles. I did a bit of research on the line to Venice, CA and the Pacific Electric acquired the burgeoning line from the Los Angeles Pacific. The car to the right reads "Los Angeles ..." on it's side. From an age of skimmer hats and parasols, this view brightened my day.
thanks for sharing this. The LAP was sold in 2 parts to the PE before WWI, it was called the balloon route. I have a book with a picture of PE boxcar 2111 that has a LAP boxcar in the background. These pictures are rare.
Only know of two half-way good shots of LAP cars on the web... links are below... http://www.pacificelectric.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/AW-LAP-2.jpg http://www.pacificelectric.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/AW-PELAP723ShermanShops02.jpg
Try this for LAP images - includes ex-LAP cars in PE service too: http://donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/dr2317.htm
Hi Bremner. I found another tower photo on the John Barriger Library "flickr" website, this one identified as the PE/SP crossing at Hayes, CA. Looks like a busy spot with the highway there too.
