Testing and troubleshooting. Saw the smoke column a couple of days ago, and then again yesterday. Probably a leak of water into the system somewhere?

I'm not sure, but I watched an old Baldwin DRS-6-6-1500 start up and it looked like a steam locomotive...it cleaned up in a few minutes

Might be raw unburnt fuel due to low or non-existent compression in one or more cylinders....?

Cold weather can do odd things to a cold diesel which has been sitting. Was it the same unit both times?

These usually don't smoke too much or for very long at startup. The scrubbers and such take care of that. It was probably at least 25-30 minutes of smoking so hard, which indicates that there is a problem. The temp inversion of the morning showed a heavy cloud hanging over this thing and the roundhouse area, and this side of town. When I head in to town, it's about a 15-20 minute drive, downhill mostly. After the vid I went to do my boiler check and it was still smokin when I got done there.

They must've gotten her fixed up. I saw it in DP pusher service on a coal empty. It snuck up on me as I came around a corner of the interstate so didn't get a pic. And she wasn't smokin a bit.
