While the Hawkeye Express and IANR 678, the Rock Island unit, sits tied down in the Vernon Spur, train BICB20 heads westbound with IAIS 513, Rock Island Heritage unit, rolls by on the main.

That almost has the feel of an alternate reality! Those are nice paint jobs.

And the best part-its home rails(Rock Island). The Iowa Northern unit-when it returns to Waterloo after football season-travels on former Rock Island rails.

Does that unit go to freight service? If so, am wondering how it is geared, to serve both passenger and freight duty?
