Thanks for the correction. I know nothing about their futures. I found the previous information on a Rail Pictures' posting.

1100's paint scheme is lovely, reminiscent of the B&M Minute Man scheme.

Thanks Hytec and Hemi! I moved from NJ over 30 years ago, so have lost touch with the goings on there. Those are lovely units! What's weird is that I probably saw these pass by our family home in Chicago a hundred times in C&NW paint in the 1970s as #417 and #420 never dreaming they'd see LV Cornell Red someday.

Here's one of their stablemates that I shot in Barrington, IL in March of '78.

Did they put a different prime mover in 1100 or something? The roof.

Interesting, I hadn't noticed that. Solar Panels, maybe.

It almost looks like it would be a combination SW/Alco prime mover.

    :D

I was rather sure to have identified these units even prior to reading your comments.... ;) A double interresting lashup : this pair of units, and not less than a former GP30 in the lead !

BTW, does anyone know why BHP-Billiton already parts with these nearly brand new units ?

I don't think it was a re-engining, but it could have just been an overhaul.

Would be cool to see an overhead shot to see what is really going on but from the angle in the picture, it almost looks like they just didn't put the engine compartment roof back on it after whatever work was done. You can see in the curve of the roof that a section of the internal compartment in grey paint is showing.

You could be right. And then the forward fan housing is just a higher profile one.

It would be interesting to know more about what was happening with that roof.

Dunno for sure, but either the lease was up on these, or they just got tired and worn out from being abused 24/7 hauling in that Aussie blazing sun!!

Seen this morning along the former SAL main, a lunar signal pulled up for a local that is operating at restricted speed because a very late Amtrak Silver Star is stopped 8-1/2 miles ahead, perhaps with an outlawed engine crew. I don't often see lunar signals and I thought this was pretty neat.

The wiring looks like something on a model railroad that would get jeers from the purists!!! lol

On Thursday, Union Pacific ran a CASE Combine train across Iowa from the Grand Island, NE manufacturing facility enroute to the NS Chicago Line where it would be shipped overseas.
