It was cool and clear in Asheville, with a high of 48 Deg. - a beautiful day. The Blue Ridge Southern photo was taken in the Arts District, which is popular with tourists. Sadly, the SOU's large Asheville roundhouse has recently been completely razed. It was hard to find a spot to photograph it because of its location, but here it was in October 2014.
I got all excited there thinking that another outfit was still using a roundhouse! Sad to see it gone.
Sadly, this lovely lady may be beyond saving. Though with someone who restores classic art works, this beauty could be restored to museum quality.
KCS 4807 heading back to Dallas after doing the daily pig turn at Dallas Junction near Krum, Texas. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ran across this old Frisco soldier in 1997-ish at a beer distributor in Grand Junction CO, well worn but still in basically good shape. The car and fence is gone now.
Took these photos back in 1997-ish Close up images and one cut and taped together to see the car in one photo. You can see how dirty these things get, especially on the ends where the wheels sling stuff up and on the ends. Car was a total petroleum lease fleet, in service between Denver and Grand Junction.
Austwell, Texas was along the Gulf Coast behind Matagorta Island on Hynes Bay. It was served by the St. Louis, Brownsville & Mexico Railroad which was part of Missouri Pacific Lines.
Austwell is still there but the railroad there is long gone. The UP does still serve a Dow Chemical plant about 6 miles away in Long Mott.
I am accustom to rail fanning in the wide open spaces. Whenever I visit the East I find the closed in wooded valleys a challenge. I like to explore the country roads on the outskirts of Roanoke whenever I visit my in-laws to find where the rail lines go. However I usually never see any trains. I hear them all the time but never have much luck being where they are at the right time. This was taken at a public grade crossing near Blue Ridge, VA. Nice track but no trains.
It was once triple track but they removed the center track. There is another bridge and track to the right that is out of the photo.
