On the eastbound trip, I think we saw a lot more folks watching along the way than we had passengers. I did not make the return trip but I am pretty sure the ticket sales were better than ours. It was an unbelievable adventure.

WOW, Just Beautiful. You guys out west had lovely paint jobs..We New York Central folks had black brutes, but they were massively beautiful leading our Great Steel Fleet!

New York Central had some of the most beautiful steam locos!

I agree, and the Niagara was my favorite. The S Class was more powerful than EMDs of the day, but they were introduced too late in the steam era.

That 4-8-4 looks like she has plenty of muscle. A big, massive beast of a machine.

The only colour for a steam loco is black!

A tuscan red stripe is acceptable but leave the flashy paintschemes for those girly diesels :p

Manned helpers in 2018? Not in the mountains?
    Surely, you jest.

Either this eastbound light helper movement is hauling a ghost train, or a heavy westbound stalled on the .66% westbound grade leaving Minot. Upwards of 10" of snow fell on this part of North Dakota in the last 36 hours, causing Amtrak to be hours late.
Here it is crossing Gassman Coulee Trestle.

Hank, since no Niagaras, favorites of both of us, survive, I have adopted 4449 as my fave 4-8-4. Kurt, I was aboard that Stampede Pass trip, too.

Hank, I hope you have ordered Tom Gerbracht's new book "Know Thy Niagaras" from the NYCSHS. I look forward to the delivery of mine.

Jim, I wasn't aware of it. Thanks.

I never became a member, but I'll ask my brother to order it for me, and let him read it first for compensation.

Neat shot BNSF FAN. That big modern NS unit to the right so dwarfs the Geep!
