Actually, those are Intermountain locos! And the Kato cars are a pain to remove the roof, the rest ain't too bad... except the observation rear window. You'll break at least one window-retaining post on that job LOL. Kato locos are easy to take apart if you have a good foam lined tray and remove the front coupler & clip first... but, since I've received MANY a loco from others with broken sill skirts, etc, remember kids... ALWAYS USE A SPUDGER! Plastic tongues meant for taking toys apart.
Thanks EMD F7A and sorry for the error on my part. I didn't look that closely at the model itself (was distracted by the paint work) and assumed they were Kato's due to the title. I see you have to remove the front coupler on the A Unit and that looks to be a pain and not something that I think I am willing to attempt for fear of loosing something ie the spring. Not sure I could get it back together either
Just remove it inside a shallow tote pan or similar and you won't lose anything. Worse case scenario, Kato sells replacement parts really cheap.
Thanks and your right - nothing ventured, nothing gained! The other worse case scenario is I wont have a front coupler.
