Well here is some progress. First shot shows garage portion of layout room. I mounted a section from my previous layout on the lower deck. That will be Grangeville with some modifications. Will not be completely prototypical. At the end I will model Lawyer Canyon viaduct in 1/3 scale. On the right will be Craigmont (modeled prototypically with some selective compression). Second and 3rd photos show the long run along the Snake River and RTE 193. West end will go through wall slightly hidden by Granite Point Park.

You've got some nice elevation going there, Tony.

    .

Finished the main line run and passing siding on upper deck. Narrow photo is east end of Lewiston yard looking at scale track and switch to Coleman Oil. Yard will be to right of mainline track. Second photo is shot of upper deck. Left side is line along the snake River. End of room will be Lewiston Union Station. Main line is about 40’ of run. Switches are hand layed using fast trak jig. My beautiful OCD wife did all the tie work for the switches

So I thought I'd post a little progress. I have the main line run on the second deck except for a stretch where the Clearwater River lift bridge is. I am currently kit bashing/scratch building it at a 70% compression. I had room for full sized but wanted to be able to get at least a train length along the Snake River before I hit the bridge. The original bridge had 5 thru truss bridges and a swing bridge. In 1974 they removed 2 thru trusses in the middle and dropped in a lift bridge and then replaced the south thru truss with a plate girder bridge over river road after adding a levee.

This is the swing section and is nearly compete except for some diagonal beams.

I have decided to modify my track plan a bit. The top image is the original lower deck and the second image is the updated deck. I originally planned to model Craigmont below the East Lewiston Yard and a 3 foot version of Lawyer Creek Viaduct between Craigmont and Grangeville. However, I was concerned that it would be difficult to switch the elevators at Craigmont with the yard crew in the way.

So I did a quick redesign. I decided to model Cottonwood in the corner (just like the real cotton wood) and will put the three curved tracks in. A main and two sidings the service the Cottonwood Elevator Corp Elevator on the inside of the curve and the Lewiston Grain Growers Elevators on the outside of the curve (will be flats). I also can model the trestle (bridge 50) over front street. I will do a 70% compression in order to allow for some separation of scenic elements (real bridge modeled to scale would be about 42". I will then be able to model a 6 foot version of the Lawyer Creek Viaduct which will do a signature scene much more justice. I am giving up a passing siding but it should help keep people out of each others way and allow for some more "Camas Prairie" on the 1st Sub Boise Division.

Very nice. I'm green with envy. I have a 2X4 layout was I have no place for a play out. You're sure on the right track, and your scenery will make the layout come to life. Appreciate you sharing it.

    Tony,

It does look impressive, would be interested in knowing the dimensions and how much track this will use.

The garage section is 8 x 19. Back in room is 10 x 12. My main line run will be about 135’ not including helix

Looks FANTASTIC !!! Just one problem. If you have any SDP40s, I don't think they will work on that layout. You may have to get rid of them. (Hint...hint !!!). Can't wait to see how the layout comes along !!!

Yes indeed Sir, I believe the snowdozer won't work there either. I'd be willing to put them to work, should you need to unload them!! Jealous grin!! So good to see you back at it!!
