There once was a logging sig here, but i guess it died. I'm starting on a doubke deck shelf layout. I have room for a new shed, six wide by 25 long. The top deck will be the logging branch. The lumber store will be on the mainline end of things. I already have cast my own log cars and old shorter flat cars. Most of the logging will be handled by bachman 2-6-0's. As no Shaysare made I'm going to build my own. If i make molds i can cast my own parts for more shays . The Atlas shays were nice, but cost more than i could afford. They're gone now anyway. Am looking forward to uilding my logging layout. Would be fun to hoik up with anyone else who loves ligging rrs.
Nice keep us updated with photos. And on a side note all the groups died under the new server which is very sad.
It doesn't help with the price, but my local hobby store actually has Atlas Shays in stock. So, if it comes to that, I can get you in touch with them.
Nick- That plug-in for Groups was not compatible with the new software. To date there is no plug-in. Groups were stored away and maybe someone will write what we need, some day.
I have tried ebay, nothing . John, id be interested in talking to that hobby shop. Thanks. Boxcab i can take pictures of my lg cars with my phone, but don't know how to post them. I'll send you pictures if i can get your email, mine is, tractorholic@gmail.com My computer diedand when i get home i can get it fixed, I'm at our cabin in the mountains , population 150, no stores.
I still haven't given up on Atlas releasing the next run of Shays (even if they were supposed to be out in 2016). It might still happen...don't destroy my dream.
Despite the cost, they are still worth it. I have two. I can say that, having also scratchbuilt a Heisler, Climax, and Shay. I really tried to make a spinning crank on my 25-ton Shay and finally gave up, but at least it has a gearhead. The Climax B was a complete success with working jackshaft and remains my best scratchbuild. If you want a shay with spinning shafts, the Atlas has the feature, slow speed, and design. I'll e-mail you some shots of my own operations here. I've been doing N logging (eastern) since 1976 or so using portable modules that have somewhat evolved toward T-trak. I'm still doing Climax A 13-ton vertical boilers and Climax 18-ton horizontal boilers, both as kits and built-up custom builds. (www.randgust.com) - also see "randgust" on YouTube for video of the Climax locomotives.
Thanks, ive ordered a couole of log cars, and you shouldhave my email. Will be ordering climax kuts when i get back home in a couple of weeks. Brian Heap
I have one of Randy's older resin kits and it is nice, plus have 3 Atlas shays. Just picked up one of Showcase Miniatures Nn3 shay kits and have in about ready for paint. I am impressed with the kit casing are clean and it assembles easy. They do not have the spinning shafts as the Atlas does but still one nice kit but total cost is more then the Atlas. rich www.rslaserkits.com
I have 4 of the Atlas shays (two runners and two that are part way kitbashed into one 3 truck shay). Just wished that Atlas would come out with more geared locomotives. REALLY want a Hiesler in N scale (or G scale for that matter...didn't buy a Bachmann one when they were available...DOH!).
I guess Randy Gustofson is our best bet. I'd sure like to have a Shay that i didn't have to mortgage my house for. Some where i heard Atlas was going to do more, but haven't heard anything. Sure would be fun to have a coupke of shays, a cli 'm ax and heisler on my layout.
