Scratch built this little car pulling winch for one of the industries on my layout. All the styrene parts came from my scrap bin. This seems like it would be a good Shapeways project for someone who does that but I could not find anything so I came up with this myself after looking at some prototype pictures on the web.

And here it is with a little paint and weathering, ready for the layout.

We used one of these to pull cuts of coal hoppers over the unloading trough where I worked. Great project idea and excellent work!

Wow what a difference a little bit of paint made on the cable

    Nice work.
I worked at a plant that had one but it was no longer used. It had a couple pulleys anchored to the ground at strategic places for going around curves or pulling away from the winch.

Fantastic car puller!!! It's amazing how modelers can make what most people call trash and be able to make something beautiful. Keep up the good work nscalestation.

I'm building a loosely authentic N-Scale model of Beauvoir for the Mississippi Model Train Museum. Beauvoir was Jefferson Davis' last home in Biloxi, MS. The home will be part of a small (about 2'x1') diorama including a Civil War battle reenactment held annually on the grounds.

The plastic for the basic structure was delivered yesterday, so it's now to work. I scaled the plans from photos. First time I've scratch built anything.

I share your  on scratch built Hytec.
I have been brainstorming a small section in my layout where a spur currently is and incorporate some half buildings (loading docks and facade) (DPM stuff along with scratch built items) along the back scape....overall maybe only about 18" x 9"

DPM kit had the wrong pillars in the kit so the Company is sending me a new kit-once it arrives onward I go.

Can't wait to see your final product Hytec

Too much stuff on my bench as usual. Here's 4 different things.
    1)Nn3 wyes
    2)Con-Cor U50 being upgraded
    3)DD-35 conversion
4)Bombardier car being fitted for sound & lights

Sometimes I wish I was more of a finisher than a starter......

That's cool with the color changes. Do you know if there was a reason for that?

I know! The Tucson paint shop also painted cars for other roads. They shot the logos with what ever color they had mixed at the time to save money.

They may have the style of windows commercially. I know I have some similar, just not the number of panes, I think mine are only four. And what is a water cistern, I think, on one side is going to be fun.

That would make sense. Myself, I don't know, just going off the data in MicroScale sheet. But that sounds good. There were several versions of this logo, including purple and grey/red.

OK, calling all Milwaukee Road modelers. I am getting ready to paint some 1942 Morning Hiawatha cars. I need to know what color to paint the car ends. I have the orange, maroon and brown for the sides and undercarriage plus plan on a faded aluminum roof that is shifting to grey. I can't tell from the photos I have what the car ends were. I would guess they are orange but would like to know for sure.

Who here likes Little Joes? This project of mine has been going on since late 2013, and while I've had the loco shells done and available for maybe three years, I hadn't made a workable chassis for it so you had to have some really good modelling skills to get this to run. Well I finally have a chassis that's going places - so to speak. The donor locomotive is a Kato SD90MAC, which gives me the trucks, gear towers, worm gears, motor and contact strips. There are a few extra parts required but assembly is a breeze so hopefully other modelers won't be shy about adding a Little Joe if they want one. I have a few more tests to do before I put it out for people to buy, but I thought I'd share my progress with the community here. These are the test runs thru 12.75 radius curves and thru switches. N-joy:

    -Mike

Oh - and for the curious, there are three different 3D printing methods employed here... one for the brass pantographs, one for the chassis, and one for the fine detail parts of the trucks and shell. Wait - technically there's a fourth, inside the shell is something I printed at home. Isn't technology great?!

I like how flawlessly it ran through the “turnout test”. You’ve done an excellent job with this project.

WOW. That's fantastic!! I imagine it will be easy to DCC/Sound with so much open undershell area.... put me on the list when it becomes available, sir! I know I'm probably "in line" haha, but it's not like Kader is gonna jump at these anytime soon...
