We got the whole layout up and running, with everything running just about as smoothly as can be expected. Here are some wide angle shots I took, trying to capture the feel of the whole. Yes, we are almost 100' to the far end
With the close in overhead lights and light colored walls, we noticed we were getting really cool reflections in the modern buildings of SV Station. Mark took these
It is a WHOLE LOT OF FUN to operate on, though. Takes a good 20 minutes or so to properly circumnavigate. Had a young man (8-10) who kept coming back, so I finally asked him if he wanted to run. He took my Daylight for a full spin around, following directions perfectly, for about 40 minutes. I know his grandfather got lots of video and photos. That was one happy kid, and I got a nice hug at the end. Maybe a new FreeMoNer in the making.
We had quite a few folks run with us through out the day and surprisingly (I think) no dispatching issues. Well, except maybe a few speed violations from one very enthusiastic young engineer. (Not the same one that ran with his grandfather) Also very surprising that all the way out here in SLC, a good handful of folks were still familiar with our Nebraska modules prototype locations. Finally around 9pm, Rick and the crew had to about pry the throttle out of my hands. I'd be running trains 24 hours a day if they let me.
Rick, We did not make the National this year. That said, a buddy of mine sent me pictures of the Fre-Mo layout. Is that your SP equipment. AC on a reefer block, with "Black Widow" F units near by. Also saw a GS powered "Daylight" as well. I saw some "searchlight" signals on the layout, commercial or custom built? Layout looks very impressive. Are you planning for next year in Chicago? We are! Thanks!
Mike, yes most of what you saw would be my equipment, although we actually had 3 Daylights with GS4s on the layouts for a good portion of yesterday (Thursday) and today. The searchlight signals were made by Serge Lebel at Scale Models Division. I don’t believe he is still making them commercially available, but you can search for him.
Harry Potter meets Doctor Who at Silicon Valley Station! Mark Watson's British train pulls behind SV Station's Torchwood Institute, with a TARDIS sitting by the tracks. More cool reflection photos
More photos of the joint layout. Mark and I took a serious amount of video today, which he will be editing down into an entertaining clip, as well. A couple of Daylights, at day break, in the SV Station Reefers and mixed freight in Effet Yard The reefers got an early start, pulled by the AC-12
A full Hobson Yard. And hey, there is a Daylight in there! Mike Fifer came by and ran a train. You can see it on the right, here
You got your wish it's at the Crown Plaza in Rosemont https://www.ihg.com/crowneplaza/hot...oteldetail?cm_mmc=YextLocal-_-CP-_-US-_-CHIOK Bummer for me as not near Midway so if no shuttle a no go for me. rich www.rslaserkits.com
Rich- One of our selection criteria for our hotels is a shuttle from the closest airport. In the case of the Crown Plaza, they do have one. It was great having you at the show, so even if their wasn't an official shuttle, we'd come and get you! NSE George PS- there is also a shuttle between Midway and O'hare, so come on down!
Will do some more looking and see what I find and thanks for the offer. When will the web site be up with info? Then need to check flights out later in the year Did have a good time this year Rich Www.rslaserkits.com Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
Looks like $47 round trip shuttle. https://www.airportsupersaver.com/shuttle-bus-prices I know nothing about this particular shuttle service, but they are generally very reliable.
