I haven't done much work on the layout since we had guests in August and Irma in September. I was running trains today and shot this video tour of the layout. I tried to keep is short. It's 3:48.

I've been working on the layout. These are WIP pictures of the northwest end of the layout. The church parking lot, grass and walk are new. This section of the layout will be the first area that I finish. IMG_20171027_172222.jpg IMG_20171027_172230.jpg IMG_20171027_172241.jpg IMG_20171027_172252.jpg

I am still enjoying that billboard which used an old catalog front page...

You have a fine choice of steam motive power there!

A friend scratch built it. It has a number of different ads and I change them out every now and again.

    Thanks Fitz.

Thanks Bremner. There's still a long way to go but I'm making progress.

I've been working on the railroad. These are the latest WIP pictures. I put a paved surface under the warehouse. It's not glued down yet. 20171031_130700.jpg

This surface that will be under the freight station is glued and weighted down.

I'm thinking of moving this town to the lower level in the area in the next picture. I'm also going to replace this Realtrax with FasTrack. I really don't like Realtrax. The switch and grain warehouse in the next picture would go here. I'd build a small ridge and maybe a lake area plus lots of trees.

    20171031_130752.jpg

With the switch and warehouse gone the town would fit in this area with room to spare. I'll think about this for a few days before I move anything.

    20171031_130744.jpg

I put a floor into the tunnel so it looks better and added the road and crossing. The road isn't glued down yet.

I like the idea of moving the town to the lower level, I want a town on my layout one day! What are you using for your road? Looks similar to what I am using which is 2mm kind of foam cheap sheet's for 89 cents from Hobby Lobby, like 18" x 12" or something like that!

And I love the crisp clean look of your layout. I try to do the same on my N Scale. When you move the town a NEW video please! And that sign on your billboard I have the metal version of that Lionel sign that hangs on the wall! Even though I have no Lionel and can not afford it, plus I model in N Scale!

I follow this thread all the time! Keep up the great work!

I am trying to have a scene similar to this on my layout but failing at it so far :)

Thanks in2tech. I had N scale for about 10 years and really liked it but as I got older I found it too small to work on so I move to O.

The roads are made from black foam core and the parking area for the church is gray foam core. I get it at Dollar Tree for $1 for a 20"x30" sheet.

I also like the clean look, kind of like a Lionel layout from the '50s.

I will shoot another video when I get things moved around.

What I grew up with, so just this thought evokes great memories!

I wired some buildings so there is now light on part of the layout. Night 1.jpg Night 2.jpg Night 3.jpg

I also wired the operating MTH gateman to an MTH ITAD. The passing train triggers the action. This short night video shows the operation.

Really nice, you must have a really nice camera to get those pictures of the lights. And the video is cool, how are you stopping the lights leaks?

Thanks in2tech. I took the photos and video with my smart phone. It's a Samsung Galaxy S7.

I may paint the inside of the buildings or I may just leave them alone. The beauty of 3 rail O gauge is that such details aren't as important as in 2 rail scale. If I do paint the interiors it will be down the road when all the major scenery is done. For now I'm happy that these buildings are lit.

Yeah yours looks amazing in my N Scale it shows light leaks really easy. Once again really like the clean look of the layout, and trying to copy some stuff from you on my layout. You get the town moved or did I miss something?

Looks like you did the same thing as me, and used the Woodland Scenics grass mat which helps with the clean look :)

Yes, I used the WS grass mat. O gauge is loud so I put carpet padding on my table and covered it with the grass mat. That reduced the noise quite a bit and made for a layout that looked semi-finished right away.

I am in the process of moving the town. I didn't like the way the buildings looked if I kept the same arrangement. I'll post some new pictures in a few days when I'm reasonably happy with the way the town looks.

Wow. Exactly! I can recall so many I once owned and used. How much fun I had with such as the milk cars, and that little man carelessly tossing his cans onto the platform. I used to laugh so much at that!!!

I laid out the buildings on the lower level. I'll live with this for a few days to see if I really like it before proceeding. I need something to fill the open area next to the station. A low building like a fast food eatery or a car dealer would fit, add interest and allow the storefronts to be easily seen. I placed the billboard on the corner building to see how it might look. It will eventually go along a road somewhere.

Looks good in new location. You assemble and paint all the buildings on your layout?
