That's what it looks like, but not what happened. What happened was another bidder came in, bid, was unsuccessful, and then the autobid system on eBay kicked in and upped the bid from the highest bidder. That happens time and again until the top bidder loses the top bid. It just looks like the person bid several times when in fact that is not true.
So for example... The bidding starts at $25. I bid $35. You bid $26, and eBay uses my $35 top stop to outbid you by the increment of $1 in place at that dollar level, or $27. Then you bid $28, and eBay uses my $35 top stop to outbid you to $29. You, becoming more frustrated, bid $30, and my bid goes to $31. You, inventing new swear words, bid $32, and mine goes to $33. One last time, you bid $34, and I still have the item at $35. You then need to bid $36 to beat me, with a minimum $1 increment. Or if you'd guessed that my top stop was $35, you could have bid $35.01 and beaten me. Clear... as mud...
The first bidder put in a high bid on July 15th at 4:01 pm. The rest of the bidders are being automatically exceeded by that bid, at least as of the time I wrote this. Some of the other bidders may have put in a bid and then seen that it was not the high bid, so bid again, which may be what makes it look to you like they are bidding against themselves. The bid lists on eBay often do not seem to be in the right order.

The first two isn't that bad (of course we don't know the auction end price as of now). That's less than $1 a box. You'll pay much more if you buy them retail. The question that begs to be asked is why someone would have 164 pieces of equipment that need jewel cases?
I have a friend who liquidates estate collections. Many times he buys a collection that has no jewel cases. They resell better if they have a box even if the car description sheet is missing.
Well, I'd say a few years ago, the bidders were in the place of the seller thinking oh I have these cool storage boxes that hold a large number of cars or these are all out on the layout and no need for the boxes so lets sell them off.. Now they need to box up their equipment due to a move, growing family, etc. or need to sell off due to financial reasons and they do indeed store better and sell better in these plastic jewel boxes. Or, one of those cool big storage boxes got damaged somehow and they realize one of these lots of jewel cases is cheaper than a new storage box. Don't ask me how I know about 2/3 of those reasons....

That one is the nuttiest listing I've ever seen. So, proceeds go to charity, but if your payment is to insaneinvestor via paypal, I'm guessing the IRS might not allow a charitable deduction. That "Institute for the Development of the Harmonious Human Being" sounds pretty crazy, but their website does claim that it is a 501c3 charity.
