Make another offer, but this time make it lower than your previous offer of $92.
Two can play that game. Maybe the seller will take the hint.

It might not have been possible to change the title. eBay has rules for everything, including what can and can't be changed after a bid is received or when the listing gets within (I think) 24 hours of its scheduled end time.

I don't want to play a game. I just want to purchase an item at a fair price. I did submit another offer with an added message asking the seller why he won't sell this item for a fair price. I don't want to waste time with silly offers and counter offers. I think this item is worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $80 to $100 (shipped) in new condition, and one could hope (?) that a seller would be interested in selling it at a fair price. There will always be another seller, but I don't think there will ever be a buyer at 3 to 4 times market value.

FleaBay used to be a place where you could get great deals on some used items from normal, common-life people. You did not have to hope for a fair price, it was obvious to all parties they are used, second-hand items, carrying lower price than brand new ones.

Today, it's a place where "professional" sellers (those who flip items around - buy cheap under one handle and sell for more under another handle) expect a top dollar for some trash they picked up on the kerb (maybe because they wrote RARE, L00K and such in their subject line :D ). At the same time the whole idea of bargains and haggling is gone, because sellers put prices on their items as if they are brand new sitting on the store shelves.

This is partly fleaBay management's fault, as they want to compete with Amazon and/or other on-line retailers. The other part fault is of these "professional" sellers who are flipping hundreds of items around, and want to do as least amount of work as possible to maximize profit (heck, some of them are so lazy to even walk to the post office and would only courier items because they get picked up from their doorsteps).

Fair rant. Fortunately, most of us can see beyond the noise and just use ebay to the extent that it helps us buy or sell items. The nutty sellers who think they are going to fund their retirement by suckering ignorant buyers just add to the entertainment. I personally much prefer Nscaleyardsale for these types of exchanges, but ebay still has its place.

It's a Yahoo Group where people buy, sell and trade N-scale items. The group has a moderator but it's self regulating in a sense that people there are genuine hobbyists and not like eBay where things can get out of hand. They know the fair value and the buyers know too so exchanges are often quick and have no drama. All are done on good faith; no bidding, etc. You can search for Nscaleyardsale on Yahoo Groups.

Going on 40 years in N scale now, more in model railroading, this is the first time I have heard the term "undercoated". Exactly what is it and what does it do?

I'm pretty sure it was just a typo, and others have now run with the joke. Probably it was improperly spelled to begin with (supposed to be 'undecorated'), software autocorrected to 'undercoated', and the seller never noticed.

That was my first impression. Apparently Norsemanjack made a vain attempt at humor referring to 'undercoating' of cars for rust prevention. Man, I hope he doesn't give up his day job!

I'm being an ignoramus again, but what is wrong with that price?

My LHS has most of their used rolling stock starting a 10 CAD and going up, with most of them around 20-30 CAD. So, 8 for 60 USD (80 CAD) seems like an ok price, no?

How much should one actually pay for used rolling stock then, to be a fair price?

I'll let someone else come in and give the long explanation, but these are not real N-scale rolling stock items. These were a giveaway from Reader's Digest. They don't roll, the trucks don't rotate, and the details are not great. But many sellers on the bay either don't know or are trying to take advantage of people.

They should be paying you to take them off their hands. That would be a fair price.
Seriously though, if they're charging more than $4 US for it leave them alone.
