Loren Snyders trees. these are absolutley amazing! For the price of $0.50 a tree they cant be beat. I am simply amazed how realistic these look. If you're looking for a good tree give Loren a shout.

I think I've seen a video on how to make these trees. I think the video was staring Loren. $0.50 is a good deal!

On a related note, when will Stonebridge Models get back into making building kits?

Loren, I wish you guys could get down here. As is my way, this current layout is being torn down as I type this. It's all On30 for me these days.

Here's a pic for you. Jim

First lesson from this Forum - Loren's trees. I tried the technique. Unfortunately I could not get the material used for tree branches. So I experimented with some packaging material my wife is using to make nicely looking gifts to our frends and with oakum used by plumbers. Here are some results:

    Pawel,

Those are looking pretty good! You just have to make alot more!

For this tree making method you can use almost any hair like fiber for the branches. I used Woodland Scenics field grass (PN: FG172) because I couldn't find the large chenille bumps that Loren uses. You could also cut bristles from cheap brushes, or cut hair from a Halloween wig. One thing I do with mine is cover them in dark green foam first, and then a lighter green foam second to give them color depth, and give the appearance that the sun exposed parts are a lighter green.

You already have the full forrest ! I would recommend to experiment with wires. In my opinion your trees have a very nice shape of green part. Maybe some more imperfections in shape would add realism. But In my opinion trunks are definitely too thin. With adult trees scaled trunk should be 2 mm (sometimes more) wide.

Thanks for technical suggestions especially with two typem of green used. Well for some typem of trees also "silver green or grey green" would be prototypical.

Great trees. I was looking for the chenille bumps alsp and had given up. I just happen to have some woodland scenics field grass so I am gonna give it a shot. I have a bunch of old safety in different sizes I can use. Maybe I can use my safety wire pliers too. I like the different colors of foam also. Nice work as usual.

BTW, don't worry about the color of bumps you buy, you will be spray painting the bumps a flat gray anyway before you add the foam. Be sure to get a good quality spray paint, and not some cheap stuff that is thinner. You want a good thick spray that covers the chenille quickly.

My job with the trees and some observations during weekend trip inspired me to to make a dead birch
