Has KCS abandoned their black, red and gold paint scheme? I see models of KCS SD70ACes painted gray for KCS, and YouTube videos also depicting modern, gray-painted KCS engines. Dieter
The black/red/gold is the newest scheme........the grey scheme made it onto a number of "modern" locos. I'm not into KCS, but I see an occasional SD60 or 70 in the grey scheme roll thru montana.
The black/red/Gold (yellow) is the retro belle. It's the newest scheme and is about 4 years old. The grey locos began rolling onto KCS rails in the late 1990s - 1998 I think. Prior to that, everything was white back to about 1970 or 1972. Interestingly, if you ar elucky an dknow where to look, the White Ghosts still appear on the rails.
My memory is that I saw white on KCS diesels, very early 1970s while I was in the Ark-La-Tex area. That scheme must have come about 1970-1971.
Oh, okay. I was wondering, because I'd seen listings for modern HO power on eBay decorated in the KCS gray ghost scheme, and I like their retro Belle scheme, even though I don't model the KCS.
This White Ghost was assigned to the KCS Gulfport (MS) Branch in November, 2008. And these Southern Belle and Grays this past November, just 4 years later.
