Very nice locomotive. I was happy that they released the "freight" version. I like the old prototypes more than the current excursion stuff. Kato does a real nice job catering to both audiences.
Kato fef-3 is an amazing locomotive for n scale. The best one out of athe Kato locomotives I have. It's pulling power is off the charts mines was able to pull 34 car unassisted up my old layout 4%grade on the low throttle setting on my dc controller.new wheel slip nothing just pulls like nothing there
It's a Kato so it'll be good! All of my engines bar 2 are Kato and have never had an issue with them what so ever. The other two, well, not so much.
I just picked up a Freight version KOBO shops w/LocSound and couldn't be more pleased (with the performance & sound) Get it, you won't regret it!
Just got back from getting the 844, drove 60 miles but got for $115.00. Little dust on it but new. Don
Don, that was a steal at that price. I probably would have driven twice that far to get one at that price. Probably the one of the best if not the best running loco I have right now.
Had a little problem not wanting to back up, but after I ran it a while runs very nice. Glad I didn't pass it up. Did they come with any instructions? This one didn't.
Which version did you get? DC, DCC or DCC+Sound? About the only "instructions" for the DC version is how to install the DCC card, and the exploded parts diagram (available on the Kato website). You can download the TCS decoder instructions from the TCS site, if you got it with DCC. If sound version (at which point, you've gotten an absolute steal), things get a lot more complicated, but you can look at the "bulletin" for it on the ESU site. Kato FEF page: http://www.katousa.com/N/FEF/index.html (exploded parts diagram under "Maintenance") TCS install info: http://www.tcsdcc.com/Customer_Cont...res/N_Scale/Kato/FEF 4-8-4/FEF4-8-4_K6D4.html TCS K6D4 manual: http://www.tcsdcc.com/Customer_Content/Literature/Decoders/N_Scale/NDecoderSpecific.htm (click on K6D4) ESU sound project info: http://projects.esu.eu/projectoverviews/2?type=steam&order=date (4th one on page: click on the "more" and "functions" highlight)
I just posted a trade ad looking for one of 'em... if you're not dead set on cash maybe check out my ad on the swap meet? Woohoo!
