Welcome back everyone. I hope you had a great weekend and managed to get some model railroading done, let's get started.

Saturday: As planned, we went to Angela's Grandma's for Turkey Day part two. We had our fill of Grandma's good cooking and enjoyed blueberry and pumpkin pie afterwards. After the visit, we came home to the doggies, fed them then relaxed with an interesting documentary while enjoying cheese and crackers with wine. Pretty relaxing day.

Sunday: Started off as a day of cleaning and getting ready for Christmas. With the impending move scheduled for early to mid 2022, more "stuff" is finding its way to the dumpster or donation bin. In the attic, a room off from the upstairs common room, is the Christmas decorations but I could not get to them so more cleaning was in order. I finally dragged the N scale City Job out of storage and started updating it for the next phase. Simply put, the new modules will have the L 1/4" and 1/2" Baltic Birch legs I have designed and had success with. The current City Job had legs that were 54 inches long so I cut them all down to 48 inches and worked on the common area as the new home for the City Job. After being in storage for almost three years, I still have a lot to do, but it has motivated me to start up the update.

So how about you? What did you get done this last weekend of November? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday, December 3rd to start off the new month. Until then, have a great week, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

Made good progress with electrical connections, with my Kato DC, Troller DC tethered walkaround and MRC Prodigy DCC all connected and tested. Also bought two sample-sized reject paint jars at Home Depot for $0.50 Ea to paint the 1/2" foam panels atop my train table. One's gray and the other brown, and mixed together ought to provide a suitable color and quantity.

    Happy Monday everyone!

Pretty much spent the better part of the weekend helping the wife with getting out all the Christmas décor along unboxing and setting up the trees. Slightly train related as I got to set up the G scale set around one tree and unboxed all my Hallmark ornaments

Also spent a little time at the workbench starting repairs on this car shop building.

Now it's back to work and hoping Christmas break gets here quick. Hope you all have a great week!

Weekend went as I planned. Managed to hit the NC State-UNC football game Friday night, basketball game Saturday afternoon. Intermingled with all that I managed to do some modeling.

Took the Bertani Billiards Building I assembled in 2006 and spruced it up. Added acetate for the windows and removed the rear steps. Those steps and porch cracked. Since I am placing this up against a siding, I added a Tichy Trains fire escape porch and ladder. I modified the platform and railings to be more narrow since it is up against the track. Weathered the thing up stuck it on. I still have a few details to go but it is getting there.

Also took out 2 new InterMountain C&O dreadnaught end, coal hoppers. Weathered them up for service. Then found a Berwind Hopper I lettered 32 years ago that had never been run much. I weathered it w/ the airbrush and TruColor & Tamiya paint and VOILA! It can now earn its keep. Have a great week all!

I did not have much modeling time, but while shopping for a few Christmas decorations, I stumbled upon some alcohol based markers at Michael's Crafts. I figured they may be ok for weathering. I have never weathered any of my N scale rolling stock before, so I thought an experiment may be in order. Here are a few cars I did on Saturday evening as my first ever weathering attempt. I still need to work on the roofs, trucks and wheels, but I was satisfied with the experiment, using the alcohol based markers.

@pomperaugrr - what brand are those markers?

With family coming at Christmas, I started working scenery in the corner of the layout that's visible to the rest of the house:

Scenery really starts bringing a layout to life. I am enjoying watching your progress!

The alcohol based markers are a Michaels store brand called "Artist's Loft." Michael's had them for $3.99 and buy 1 get 1 at 50%. They go on like a wash, but dry very quickly. Keep some Q-tips and or brushes handy, along with a some isoprophyl alcohol for blending and helping the dried areas flow better. They also sell a blending marker, which I would recommend. I bought some basic earth tones and a couple of grays. I will have to play with these some more.

Accomplished very little due to being out of town for the holiday. I did finish assembly of the wooden trestle and attached it to the display base. [IMG]

I also installed some fascia and one section of backdrop for the upper level. Big plans for backdrop installation next weekend!

Thanks. I got the graphic from an online image and printed it out at work on a laser printer. Then used some 3M Super 77 spray adhesive to attach them to some scrap foamcore.

    Continuing from fridays post:

Friday- the sculptamold was taking forever to dry so I hit the LHS for some piano wire and paint. Ended up setting up a portable tool box for shows. Received the HOn3 steamer I purchased as well. Makes a great static display.

Saturday my wife got involved and borrowed a fan from my son to speed up the drying of the sculptamold. I was finally able to lay the cork road bed on the yard lead. Finished up the new cart for the staging yard that will give better access. Just need paint. Found either the 1” and. 1/2” foam I put on I won’t ba Abel to use the cork sheeting I normally do since everything is now the same height and level. Time to figure out how to attach track straight to the foam. I also pulled out two blue point switch machines and started to prep my swing bridge for their installation.

Sunday I glued the track down on the yard lead. Next will be soldering the track to the PCB ties and cutting the rail at the joints. Didn’t get much more done since I had to take my daughter back to her dorm at Utah State.

Very successful weekend. More done than I have been able to get done in weeks.

No modeling. Setup N-Trak layout up Wednessday afternoon. Ran Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Packed up and brought trailer back that afternoon. May have found a new member.

I finished three projects this weekend.

First: Frame for the coal mine on N scale layout.
    20211125_112526.jpg

Second: Frame for the sawmill on N scale layout.
    20211126_230901.jpg

Third: Track plans for the HO layout.
    20211128_150622.jpg

Next project is picking up where I left off on the HO scale Ft. Scott Depot. Need to finish cutting out doors and windows.

Will start bringing the layout from storage to home on December 3rd. Trying to have it set up by New Year's Eve to ring in the new year properly. The Arkansas River Bridge was damaged during one of our trips to storage, may have to replace the side trusses on the brown section and repair the south lift tower.

Thought I had bought new OLD switches at the hobby shop a month back. Turns out they are those #6 I guess #2585 Atlas switches. Tried some old ones, but it is a no go. Time to buy some new Remote Standard Atlas switches I guess. Did also add a few extra spurs, just messing around and enjoyed running some trains after the switch problem. Time to put the New manual ones back for now.

Just a few minutes shuffling odds and ends on my work bench. Have been assigned a project at work, which is keeping these old bones well tired daily. As it is the Holiday season, this will not change, likely until well into January.
