Well, we are back. I hope you all had a great and busy weekend doing what you love. Friday: After posting the WMP thread here, I met my buddy Brian in the lobby to see about some breakfast. We found a small bakery downtown then proceeded to walk to the Galesburg RR Museum. We got a nice tour of the equipment on display outside and found out that the silver CB&Q waycar on display there was originally assigned for the City Job! Looks like some scratch building is in order! After the tour and a quick trip through the gift shop, we hung around the platform waiting for trains to get pictures of. Traffic was very light this year. Brian and I then went to the Galesburg High School field house to get our layouts set up, By 4;30, Bill had shown up with his portion of the layout and by 7:00 we had a layout. We then went out for some BBQ and some frosty adult beverages. Saturday: We started the day with breakfast and then our first run. The new NW2's I had picked up were still getting broken in but the performance got better as the day went on. We got to see a lot of old friends including John from Trainboard and some new ones. All in all a busy but fun day. Saturday night I had a surprise as Angela had driven up to spend the night with me. We finished Saturday at the Taco Hideout, some railfaning and finally some ice cream at our favorite stand, Kastle Kreme. Sunday: we ran the second day of switching and enjoyed the operations aspect of the layout. Before we knew it, the last trains were headed back to their respective yards and we were packing up the layout. Why do these shows always go so fast? So how about you? What did you accomplish this past weekend? Let us know. We'll start the process all over again on Friday, June 30th. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and as always... High Greens!
Three more locomotives with decoder installed this weekend and a test run with some. It was a hot weekend and didn't feel like doing to much else on the layout so I weathered some Railbox boxcars that looked entirely too new. Did the first coats of paint and chalks. Here's the before of one... Was invited to the LaMesa Model Railroad club to run trains on Saturday, had a blast - photos up in the HO section. I got absolutely nothing done -- model railroad wise. Saturday: Went to Home Depot - so, I had a few small home projects done. Then the wife and I did a little summer cleaning of our bedroom (Well over due). Attended a friends wedding Saturday afternoon/evening. Sunday: After going to breakfast and then grocery shopping -- did nothing but watch the NASCAR race -- Sonoma baby!! So, I ended up taking a break from modeling. Will be back at it this week. Hope ya'll had a great weekend, Wolf
Still working on my passenger cars - but now I've expanded it to reworking the striping and the like on the three locomotives that will likely pull them. S'funny, the more you do, the more you're dissatisfied with how the old ones look and have to go back for improvements! Still many improvements to go, and I can't figure out just exactly HOW the colors should be, and the stripes should be - as every time I have something I like, I find more pictures that disagree with my theory. I may just have to give up and do it my way! Some are too light, some are too orange, some are too green, some are too glossy, some are too flat .. and there's a picture somewhere to back up the idea that at one time every one of them existed! I'm beginning to think that every GN paint shop decided their own shade of Omaha Orange and Pullman Green .. .
Their paint did fade or wash out some, after exposure to weather. It has been over 45 years now, since GN days, but I do remember seeing differences.
