We're back from our weekends, were you productive?

Well my weekend was pretty much devoted to the other lady this weekend, that would be Jessica my Jeep. My future son in law came over about 8:00 Saturday morning and we soon started. We were really happy to have the front lift, suspension and steering stabilizer mounted by around 3:00. We were amazed at how clean the frame was and not one bolt or screw gave us any trouble. Then we started the rear.....
Four busted bolts in to the upper rear shock gave us fits requiring us to try and drill out the bolt for hours. Mix that with several trips to town (40 minutes away) and by 11:00, we still had not moved past the first of four broken bolts. Fortunately Sunday found me on the Jeep forums, with a solution. The solution wasn't easy, super labor intensive and required lifting the body off the frame, but by 7:00 last night we were done and had something stronger and better than OEM. Jess looks ready for railfanning now! Well she does need bigger tires. We finished the evening with installing a stereo in my daughters new Jeep, which was my old Cherokee and called it a day. So no real modeling, but lots of fun work on my Railfan Jeep Jess.

So how about you? What did you get done? Show us what you got done with a little write up. We'll be back on Friday the 28th to start off another weekend of model railroading bliss. Until that date, have a great week, stay safe and as always...

    High Greens!

we have finally gotten everything moved into the new house. Given how much was never unpacked from the trip down last summer, and how much we got rid of, I wasn't expecting so much work. But its all there. which means about two weeks of unpacking and arranging the garage at night so it will be ready for benchwork.

As I suspected, (having our granddaughter all weekend) - I got almost nothing accomplished. I did manage to get the lighting effects squared away on my BLI to ESU transplanted N Scale PA-2's done. Now, they are truly ready for service. No other modeling was done. We took her to the park - and road the choo chho. A short 12 minute jaunt. She loved it!!

Hope ya'll had a wonderful weekend,
    Wolf

Have you started teaching her to switch trains yet? How is she with TT&TO?

Well.. this weekend I got the "by-pass" completed (framed that is) along the back side of the Albemarle CIty backdrop. I managed to repair the siding trestle to Ad Hoc Mills, and I got the new passenger station about 90% complete. I'm building a Walthers "City Depot". To give it some C&O flavor, I pre-painted all of the brick an off white, similar to the White Sulphur Springs, WV depot. I've read folks complaining about how that kit goes together (not so well) and would agree. The biggest problem I've had is a small gap in all of the many wall corners. (Major wall corners, brink column corners, brick pilaster corners). Not large, but enough to be perceptible. I experimented late in the day gently rubbing in some spackling compound mixed with some of the same paint used to air-brush the brick. Works pretty good.

In addition to all of that, I managed to clean up the train room and run a couple of trains out and back.

IMAG1113.jpg I finally got started on completing some grade crossings that haven't been touched in decades. Got the hydrocal down in four crossings to bring the roads to the rail height and got th e roads painted. Nothing like waiting for paint to dry.

    IMAG1114.jpg

Below is the the crossing after a piece of styrene was cut and filed down to fit between the rails. This can be time consuming to get the styrene as close as possible to the rails yet not to interfere with the flanges on the wheels. On this crossing all tha is left is to touch up the ballast and ground cover.

I'm pleased that I got most of my backdrop in and little fluffy clouds painted. I think they look reasonably .. "cloudlike" for being as flat as they actually are. I also got all the center section trackage painted and ready for ballast.

    Till next week!

I see the front and part of the left side - I assume those are ones you have already? Is this even the right building?

That's the passenger station on Ocean. The one I am working on is the freight station that was at 1600 Colorado Avenue...it was a wooden building (and now a parking lot for a park).

What I really wanted to model was the West Long Beach Freight Station that was west of the Los Angeles River...but all I could find was an even worse photo in Cars of Pacific Electric Volume III Combos, Locomotive & Non-Revenue Cars Special 37.

    Wel
Best of luck - with as many images out there on Google, surely there must be something useful!

Not quite yet -- she is just shy of 3. However, she sure enjoys Opa's choo choos. She is being groomed for it.

    Thanks,
    Wolf

Do you know a date for this photo? The trolley has that 1930's and later "futuristic" style.

February 22, 1953. This was one of the Pacific Electric's PCC cars, and a special trip. The PCC cars were almost never used on the Santa Monica Air Line.

    One would think...

    https://sopacincg.com/the-pacific-electric-paradox/

The Airline was not photographed much, because they ran one streetcar on a round trip, once a day. They only kept the Airline passenger service going because it was part of the lease...it became a freight only line in 1953 and the cantery came down right after

The West Long Beach Freight Station was at 8th and Pico, it was a joint SP and PE station. From what I can tell, it was never electrified. The troublesome gas electrics switched that part of the docks until the PE got more reliable 0-6-0's at the request of the Port of Long Beach.....and yet again, since it was steam and freight, the Pacific Electric rail fans skipped it....
