I don't know about you, but for myself this has been one long week. So it's good to be changing gears soon and working on trains!

Saturday: Construction starts up again. After coming this close to ordering the FreeMo kit I had mentioned previously, the price hovered over me like a dark cloud. True, I am frugal (read cheap), but I thought there must be a better way. Besides I could use that money for Trainfest or better yet, JEEP PARTS! Thanks to fellow Trainboard member, Mark Watson, I drew up a new set of plans for the Galesburg City Job module version Mk. IV. This time I'll select Birch plywood rather than the flimsy pine I had selected before and will use a few of Mark's design cues as well. Hopefully this design will work out well and like the FreeMo kit I almost purchased, I've designed folding legs. These will still not be 100% FreeMo, but I am taking a lot of design ideas from FreeMo. Still, FreeMo is more intriguing to me and if this design works, I'll likely build a stand alone FreeMo module. Remember all that hard work I did years ago on Potter Place NH? Well it may find it's home on a FreeMo module.

Sunday: Whatever I have not finished construction wise will likely be worked on. It is supposed to rain all weekend which for us here is a welcome change, so it will be nice to work in the garage with my paranormal podcasts playing. I also need to sit down and convert two Kato NW2 switchers to Micro Train couplers and in general start working on switchlists for Milwaukee. The hotel room is booked and paid for so I need to get the fleet ready. I'm sure the ladies will require some attention too, perhaps a meal out (87 octane for Jess) and some movie time and over all relax from a stressful week at work.

So how about you? What do you have scheduled for the weekend in the train room? Let us know. We'll assemble once again on Monday the 9th to see how we all did. Until then, work safely, have fun and above all (pun intended)...

    High Greens!

Early Saturday morning I'm flying out to Phoenix to visit with my daughter's family. Relaxation and much hockey - both junior and pro - will be involved.

Like usual, this will be a pretty much non-modeling weekend for me, working on houses, inside if it rains, outside if it doesn't Hopefully someday I'll be modeling again.

I need to finish the clean up of my project from last weekend then see what is next. I have many things to complete. As well
As finish the Halloween deco in the yard. All depends upon temps.

I plan to progress with scenery this Canadian Thanksgiving weekend (we have it earlier so we can still fire up the BBQ in comfort :p - not quite so here in late November). In fact I've started already with some plaster casting of a rock face beside one of the corner curves of the main line. The first pour is in and has hardened superficially, and tomorrow there's more to come. I'm using crinkled aluminum foil to simulate the rock face texture. There was a bit of frantic running for paper towels as the tape holding down the foil leaked in several places... and right at the edge of the layout, dripping plaster over the carpet below...

I plan to test an idea for roads that I read about a while back - printing the road surface in a color printer, on heavy paper or card stock. I saw photos of the result and it looked quite satisfactory, very nice. Framed between sidewalks, it should look quite convincing. I'm using part of my brain's CPU time to think of a quick and easy sidewalk solution.

    I love using my brain.
